I have a (old) HP6300C USB scanner, that used to work with a

seems to work when i am root. Is there a way to let normal users use the
scanner?
As far as I am aware, the only way to do it is to edit /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit
and have usbfs mounted with devuid=someone. I'd say, the drive to purge
modules from kernel was rather misguided as far as permissions are
concerned, and we're going to hear from Palm Pilot users yet.
