So, whats this all about? Simple. I've recently took it upon me
working on improving how our distro works on latops. This includes
things like suspend/hibernate and resume, docking stations and
powersaving just to name a few.
Docking stations is the big one for me. In particular it seems that if
I dock my dell laptop (D600) the ethernet port on the dock doesn't
work but if its docked when powered up it works fine. If the machine
is undocked/suspended when it comes back to the dock it never works
again. Quite happy to test etc.
The suspend works most of the time really well but occasionally I get
a kernel OOPS but never often enough to bother me.
The other thing that would be really nice is the shutdown of unused
devices when not in use in battery mode. EG. Windows will shut the
ethernet port etc if its not in use at the time to extend the battery
Better bluetooth support (but I think someone is doing this as part of
the gnome SoC)
Finally (and not sure if this is already implemented or not) support
of an 'aeroplane mode' which allows you to shut off the radio on the
BT and Wireless adapter with appropriate support in NetworkManager.
