brp-python-bytecompile
by Jerry James
I'm looking into the build failures Matt identified. With my shiny
new Rawhide VM, I'm seeing this output on a local build of a package
with no python sources:
[ ... successful build messages ...]
+ /usr/lib/rpm/brp-python-bytecompile
Bytecompiling .py files below [BUILDROOT]/usr/lib*/python*/ using
/usr/bin/python*
Usage: /usr/bin/python-config
[--prefix|--exec-prefix|--includes|--libs|--cflags|--ldflags|--help]
Usage: /usr/bin/python-config
[--prefix|--exec-prefix|--includes|--libs|--cflags|--ldflags|--help]
+ /usr/lib/rpm/redhat/brp-python-hardlink
[ ... successful build messages ...]
The rpm build is completing, so I'm not worried about this particular
package. Is this going to cause problems with packages that do have
python sources, or is this just because nothing matches
/usr/lib*/python*/ in the build root? It looks like python_binary =
/usr/bin/python*, which can match any of these:
/usr/bin/python
/usr/bin/python-config
/usr/bin/python2
/usr/bin/python2.6
/usr/bin/python2.6-config
Regards,
--

FYI: packageDB URL changes coming up
by Toshio Kuratomi
This is a heads up for people using the PackageDB in scripts. The plan is
to have the 0.5.x PackageDB deployed in infrastructure no later than Fedora
13 Alpha (currently penciled in as 2010-02-09). This release will include
major changes in the URL structure and a few removals of unused methods.
More major changes are planned for 0.6.x. The best thing that you can do to
fix your code is to port it to use python-fedora. If the methods you use
are not exposed in python-fedora, either submit your code as an additional
method to python-fedora or file a bug requesting the API be added[1]_.
python-fedora API will go through a visible deprecation cycle with warnings
being issued by the code itself when a method is going away. We'll make
compatibility calls (which may be slower but will preserve the API) whenever
possible. Neither of these are guaranteed to be available when targeting the
PackageDB URLs directly.
As the codebase stabilises, we'll get a test server running on
https://admin.stg.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb/
if people want to try out the new features.

Question about tagging
by Rick L. Vinyard, Jr.
I'm trying to build cairomm 1.8.4 in devel, but the tags that I get are
dist-f12, and when I try and actually do the build I get an error saying:
/usr/bin/koji build dist-f12
'cvs://cvs.fedoraproject.org/cvs/pkgs?rpms/cairomm/devel#cairomm-1_8_4-1_fc12'
Usage: koji build [options] target URL
(Specify the --help global option for a list of other help options)
koji: error: Destination tag dist-f12 is locked
make: *** [koji] Error 1
Shouldn't I be getting f13 tags with "make tag"?

FC11 packages 'newer' than FC12
by Przemek Klosowski
I originally reported this through bugzilla, but at Rahul's suggestion,
I am posting this to the fedora-devel.
Some Fedora 12 packages have versions that do not supersede the versions
of Fedora 11 packages, preventing a complete upgrade to FC12. A partial
list is:
tigervnc-1.0.0-2.fc11.i586
gst-mixer-2.26.0-3.fc11.i586
libotf-0.9.9-3.fc11.i586
nautilus-cd-burner-libs-2.25.3-7.fc11.i586
lame-libs-3.98.2-3.fc11.i586
iptstate-2.2.2-3.fc11.i586
kmodtool-1-18.fc11.noarch
preupgrade-1.1.2-1.fc11.noarch
parrot-docs-1.6.0-2.fc11.noarch
mod_dnssd-0.6-2.fc11.i586
libnetfilter_conntrack-0.0.100-1.fc11.i586
a52dec-0.7.4-15.fc11.i586
faad2-libs-2.7-1.fc11.i586
libvolume_id-141-7.fc11.i586
twolame-libs-0.3.12-4.fc11.i586
parrot-1.6.0-2.fc11.i586
parrot-devel-1.6.0-2.fc11.i586
parrot-tools-1.6.0-2.fc11.i586
faac-1.28-1.fc11.1.i586
iw-0.9.17-3.fc11.i586
sos-1.8-17.fc11.noarch
gnome-mount-0.8-5.fc11.i586
For example, 'yum update iw' does nothing; 'yum install iw' results in
an error message
Transaction Check Error:
package iw-0.9.17-3.fc11.i586 (which is newer than
iw-0.9.17-2.fc12.i686) is
already installed
Similar behavior for all other packages on the list.

ilbsndfile update!
by Orcan Ogetbil
Hi folks,
After getting okays from a few folks I decided to fix the long
standing libsndfile bugs.
One of these was a request [1] to split the utilities that come with
libsndfile into a utils subpackage. I did this only for F-13.
Since libsndfile is used by so many other software, it is impractical
for me to check all of these software to see if any of them depends on
these command line utilities. If you have a package that depends on
libsndfile, it would be good to check whether it uses these utilities.
Then you'll need to require libsndfile-utils directly. If your package
just needs the library there is nothing to worry about. Again, the
utils split is only made in F-13.
Other than that, libsndfile is updated to 1.0.20 in F-10+. Also, now
it has the libvorbis support enabled.
Cheers,
oget

Review request...
by Nathanael D. Noblet
Hello,
I just posted my first review request a few days ago. I think someone
has been trying to help me through that process. Up to now I've felt
like I've been following instructions. Could someone please review the
information in the following (not necessarily review the request), to
see if I've completely lost it and am not understanding what is being
requested of me? I feel like I'm complying but got some odd message
about not following instructions and so won't be helped. When I think
I'm doing what they ask.
Anyway a total packaging noob (for fedora atleast, we maintain a
bunch of software in RPM format for CentOS and Fedora workstations
inhouse). I've read the guidlines as best I can, and responded to
requests on the review so I'm just wondering what I may be missing...
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=537587
Thanks,
Nathanael
