Thanks a lot.
But, Would you please tell me where I can get it?
(i.e. the latest FC2 update kernel. that is, the
latest 2.6.9 errata kernel for FC2)

Making yum relocateable
by James Harrison
Hi,
Ive sucessfully installed yum-2.0.8 to /opt/yum-2.0.8/.
However, some paths inside certain files are still hardcoded in place:
/etc/yum.conf, /usr/share/yum ....
Is there some compile option that sets these paths to be under the --prefix
path?
I sure this seems odd, bit I want to keep yum program/config files in a yum
directory.
(Wasnt sure where to send this email too - sorry if its in the wrong place)
Thanks for any help.
James

effect of parameter in scheduling of kernel2.4.26
by abhijit kumar
Dear Developers!
I have introdued a new SCHEDULING POLICY in my linux kerenel-2.4.26.
My scheduling algorithm is different than SCHED_OTHER policy in following ways?
1. Time slice is 100 ms in place of 50 ms. (kernel/sched.c TICK_SCALE
is redefined)
2. Stack limit is 16 mb in place of 8mb.(linux/sched.h #define
_STK_LIM (16*1024*1024) )
3.Max_COUNTER is for 400ms (linux/sched.h)
4.I am giving more weight to process running in current data segment.
( if (p->mm == this_mm || !p->mm)
weight += 5; /* I am giving significant advantage to the current MM */ )
5.i am giving significant weight to SCHED_MY process so even a real
time process may loose slight advantage.so in forking processes change
scheduling policy of one process as SCHED_RR.It may be good to
generate similar programme with four different SCHED algorithm and
compare their time got by struct rusage fields.
6.It leads to preemption even the current process priority is as good
as next process. (preemption_goodness subroutine)
7.Timeout is also defined in case of
SCHED_MY(#define MAX_SCHEDULE_TIMEOUT 2*LONG_MAX /linux/sched.h)
Make the current task sleep until @timeout jiffies have elapsed.It
also assures that Task will be in TASK_RUNNING after
schedule_timeout() has occured.
8. move an exhausted process to be last in runqueue.Inspired by SCHED_RR.
I am n't clear about what should
be the effect of following changes on actual scheduling.Please explain
me the importance of these parameters and, also suggest some
application running which I can notice the changes. I am usung
"getrusage( )" function to see different parametter values.
Eagerly waiting for your reply!
Thanking You

How to disable CONFIG_KALLSYMS in FC2 (kernel 2.6.5-1.358)
by Park Lee
Hi,
Now, I'm using FC2 (linux-2.6.5-1.358), for some
reason, I need to disable CONFIG_KALLSYMS for kernel
development.
In /usr/src/linux/.config, we can see that
"CONFIG_KALLSYMS=y" is included in the General setup
section like the following:
#
# General setup
#
CONFIG_SWAP=y
CONFIG_SYSVIPC=y
CONFIG_POSIX_MQUEUE=y
CONFIG_BSD_PROCESS_ACCT=y
CONFIG_SYSCTL=y
CONFIG_AUDIT=y
CONFIG_AUDITSYSCALL=y
CONFIG_LOG_BUF_SHIFT=17
CONFIG_HOTPLUG=y
# CONFIG_IKCONFIG is not set
# CONFIG_EMBEDDED is not set
CONFIG_KALLSYMS=y
CONFIG_FUTEX=y
CONFIG_EPOLL=y
CONFIG_IOSCHED_NOOP=y
CONFIG_IOSCHED_AS=y
CONFIG_IOSCHED_DEADLINE=y
CONFIG_IOSCHED_CFQ=y
CONFIG_CC_OPTIMIZE_FOR_SIZE=y
But, when we run 'make menuconfig', we can only see
that the General setup section only contains the
following items:
[*] Support for paging of anonymous memory (swap)
[*] System V IPC
[*] POSIX Message Queues
[*] BSD Process Accounting
[*] Sysctl support
[*] Auditing support
[*] Enable system-call auditing support
(17) Kernel log buffer size (16 => 64KB, 17 =>
128KB)
[*] Support for hot-pluggable devices
[ ] Kernel .config support
[*] Configure standard kernel features (for small
systems) --->
[*] Optimize for size
Then, It seems that there is no place to disable
CONFIG_KALLSYMS (i.e. turn 'CONFIG_KALLSYMS=y' to
'CONFIG_KALLSYMS is not set'), How can I turn off the
'CONFIG_KALLSYMS' item?? Is CONFIG_KALLSYMS=y set
automatically by system?
Thanks,
=====
Best Regards,
Park Lee

k3b build error on x86_64
by Si Jones
Hi All,
Am having a few problems building things, the first was mplayer, and now
it seems like k3b is having the exact same thing.
When it comes to finding the X stuff it looks in the wrong place, in
this case the error seems to point out that configure is actually not
finding the correct X lib64 directory.
Could someone point me in the direction to correct this error, or
someway of checking a config somewhere, I have checked the spec file and
it does not contain anything relating to X.

Putting Flumotion into Fedora 4
by Christian Fredrik Kalager Schaller
Hi everyone,
I would like to propose putting Flumotion into Fedora 4.
Flumotion is for those who doesn't know it a Streaming Media server
with a GTK+ configuration and administration interface available under
the GPL license. It uses GStreamer and Twisted as its underlaying
libraries. Its designed for running on Linux with support for input from
webcams, tvcards, soundcards and Firewire devices under Linux. Homepage
to be found on http://www.flumotion.net
I had originally planed on waiting with this proposal a little to let
the server mature and grow more popularity first, but problems with
how Fedora works made me think that proposing it sooner would be an idea
to give distro developer more time to figure out how to solve the issues
needing solving to make Flumotion run smoothly on Fedora.
In the bug report linked below I have outlined the problems with making
Flumotion run nicely on Fedora today, but as you also will see from the
Bug report Bill Nothingham basically says fixing these issues will not
happen before Flumotion ships with Fedora:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=140853
The group proposal from that bugzilla is how Debian and Mandrake solves
the problem and the packages for these platforms already implements it.
So I would like to get some Feedback from Fedora developers on this
proposal and what I/we can do to help make this happen.
Christian
