There are two different kinds of 'debian support'. For one, is to run
the cobbler server in a debian node. That is mostly related to
packaging stuff, maybe backporting due to older packaged versions and
so.
For this, I'm quite sure that there were a 'debian' directory sometime
in cobbler or some development git. There are also attempts to pack it
with ubuntu (
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/CobblerSpec, and mentioned in
some "what's comming" ubuntu server slides).
The other kind of 'debian support' is to import debian distros and
automatically install them in the same way that happens with RedHat
derived ones. This is a quite different stuff, because debian media
and repos are completelly different from RedHat ones, as well as their
preseeding method (equivalent to kickstart, which is also available at
least on some ubuntu versions). Working out this means either strong
changes on cobbler code or deep work with extreme care over cobbler
code.
These second goal was partly achieved in the past, although not to the
complete satisfaction of Michael (nor mine, actually). Although I ran
out of time to work on this, the github is still available at
http://github.com/javiplx/cobbler-devel, and there are a couple of
references in the wiki as well as useful info in the mailing list
archives. If someone wants to keep on with this, I have no problem
giving him some details about debian differences and reasoning leading
me to the code mentioned above.
