UEFI Support?
by Bill Peck
Has anyone started working on UEFI support in cobbler? I'm guessing we
would want to write UEFI configs for x86, x86_64 and ia64. They would
co-exist with pxe and efi entries.
Thoughts?

cobbler cli user doesn't work after 1.x to 2.0.1 upgrade
by Chris Kelly
Hello-
I upgraded from 1.x to 2.0.1 and the cobbler cli user no longer works.
example:
[root@admin1 ~]# cobbler system add --name=foobar
cobbler.cexceptions.CX:'user <DIRECT> does not have access to
resource: xedit_system'
[root@admin1 ~]#
Looking around in the source code, I see:
/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/cobbler/modules/authz_ownership.py
def authorize(api_handle,user,resource,arg1=None,arg2=None):
"""
Validate a user against a resource.
All users in the file are permitted by this module.
"""
if user == "<DIRECT>":
# CLI should always be permitted
return True
...
so that should fall through fine. However, we are using LDAP
([authentication] module = authn_ldap) and I don't see any such code
in the LDAP module. It doesn't seem that adding similar code to the
authn_ldap.py file (and clearing pyo and pyc files and restarting
cobblerd) does the trick.
We are using the config file to manage users ([authorization] module =
authz_configfile) and adding <DIRECT> as a user there doesn't let root
on the command line back in.
Any ideas? Thanks!

FW: [PATCH] Logging and cli error patches for master
by Vreman, Peter
I still have the patches below for cobbler. Can the patches be integrated upstream?
The Koan and CLI error handling patches are real issues that break scripts and KVM virsh console support.
Regards,
Peter

trac 516 - web interface repository selection in profile settings is not saved
by Gordon Child
Hello all,
Fixed bug 516 from trac... I didn't see a fix anywhere out there.
cpforbes originally started on this; thought I'd finish it.
git://github.com/gordonchil/cobbler.git
the branch it's under is 'trac516'
I added this to web/cobbler_web/views.py - generic_save
# Multiselect fields are handled differently
if field["html_element"] == "multiselect":
values=request.POST.getlist(field['name'])
value=[]
for single_value in values:
if single_value != "<<None>>":
value.insert(0,single_value)

Extending Cobbler via modules
by Kelsey Hightower
Is it possible to add new features to Cobbler entirely through a
cobbler module? This seems the to be the case with DHCP and DNS
management.

system's netboot_enabled value via api
by Gordon Child
Hello all,
I'm trying to modify the netboot_enabled value on a system using the remote api.
I've tried to use the modify_system function however it seems to require the actual object rather than the name of the system. This is rather expensive to serialize. (may be quick in python, but using perl's XMLRPC::Lite it takes a long time).
Can modify_system be changed to take the system name rather than the system object?
In the interim I've added a call that does the reverse of what already exists for kickstart files... however, this is somewhat of an issue because *anyone* can call this (and reinstall your machine)

Comments, suggestions?
Thanks,
Gordon Child

[PATCH] mac_address and ip_address variables
by Vladimir Zlatkin
When kickstarting systems via a profile cobbler does not expose mac_address or ip_address variables to kickstart templates. This patch fixes that. This eliminates the need to add systems into cobbler via `cobbler system add` but still allows for templates to use MAC or IP addresses as input.
The use case that drove this is the following:
Customer wants to have a single kickstart template for all machines (F11 in this case). The system specific kickstart data lives in an external database (LDAP). Customer would prefer to not have to register all systems to cobbler, but instead to pull kickstart data from LDAP at time of PXE.

cobbler on debian(-based) distributions
by S. Schauenburg
I tried to use cobbler with my Ubuntu machine as a host. I had to make
several adjustments to the packaging/code to get it to work properly.
Currently I have made them into (small) patches, which I want to
submit for review, if applicable. If several small changes could be
made in the cobbler source tree, the result would be that cobbler
could work on even more distributions without much hassle. Therefore I
have a few questions:
* Is somebody currently working on getting cobbler to work on
Debian(-based) and/or other distributions? If yes, who is it and how
can I contact him/her/them?
* Is cross-distribution functionality something that is on the wishlist?
Kind regards,
Sebastian

Re: post_install_network_config snippet
by Jonathan Sabo
I bet the testing you did didn't find the code path that was causing me the
issue....
Check out line 165 in the post_install_network_config snippet.
if [ -f "/etc/modprobe.conf" ] && [ $IFNAME ]; then
grep \$IFNAME /etc/modprobe.conf | sed "s/\$IFNAME/$iname/" >>
/etc/modprobe.conf.cobbler
grep -v \$IFNAME /etc/modprobe.conf >> /etc/modprobe.conf.new
rm -f /etc/modprobe.conf
mv /etc/modprobe.conf.new /etc/modprobe.conf
fi
Particularly:
if [ -f "/etc/modprobe.conf" ] && [ $IFNAME ]; then
That needs to be escaped doesn't it?
ie.
if [ -f "/etc/modprobe.conf" ] && [ \$IFNAME ]; then
grep \$IFNAME /etc/modprobe.conf | sed "s/\$IFNAME/$iname/" >>
/etc/modprobe.conf.cobbler
grep -v \$IFNAME /etc/modprobe.conf >> /etc/modprobe.conf.new
rm -f /etc/modprobe.conf
mv /etc/modprobe.conf.new /etc/modprobe.conf
fi
bf1f9105 snippets/post_install_network_config (Justin Sherrill 2009-04-09
11:27:56 -0400 165) if [ -f "/etc/modprobe.conf" ] && [ $IFNAME ]; then
Is that right?
I'm surprised this wasn't causing me issues before when i was testing....
