Greetings,
Maybe it's me - but all evening the Fedora8 repos seem awful slow. I did a new install of 7 on my lappy 6:00 pm this evening, its now 11:17 pm and I'm still downloading the 208 or so updates.
Can someone confirm?

As I write this I'm in the process of upgrading 30 packages for F8 using the updates, adobe, and livna repositories. A time out for the downloading of two packages occurred. After re-invoking Smart from the commandline the downloads and updates proceeded to completion.

I'm also doing an upgrade. Don't know exactly how many packages are actually part of it; pup said 15 security upgrades. So far, the machine has been at it ever since 9:21 AM, it's 11:06 PM now, which makes about 13 hours 45 minutes. A little less than 40 megabytes downloaded so far. That's about 800 bytes /second, which is **SLOW**.
Any ideas what's going on? Server problems? Or maybe ATT (my ISP) has put some kind of a throttle on such downloads.
Many Thanks - jon

It says "15 updates" and that there are security updates available. I don't think it shows the actual number of security updates. It's just that the notification is misleading if there are security updates in addition to normal updates.

Quite right -- it did say "15 updates". The file size counts are from /var/cache/yum/updates/packages, showing progress as of when I posted to the list. There were many more than 15 RPMs in the directory at the time -- I didn't write them down, and don't remember exactly.
The upgrade finished this morning quite quickly, so whatever the problem was seems to have gone away; but it would be nice to know what the problem was.
Thanks - Jon
