Sorry it took so long but my isp had to come out and fix my crap. Anyway
the log file is empty so I think it's ok now the problem is switching
the resolution and getting the redhat-xfree tool to recognize the new
resolution........I think

Ryan,
inspect the /var/log/XFree.log file for errors. Where exactly in the
XF86Config file did you enter the modeline?
