i tried to update the kernel that was just released
i get a message

i guess cause the kernel is usually skipped but since this is the only
package i need, why won't it let me install the update ?
have you tried
up2date -f kernel
this will override the package skip list, which is stopping you from
installing the kernel package.
ps 'man up2date'
