Hi:
AFAIR that laptop has some Radeon 7500 or something like that. So that's
not helping.
I'm sorry: I don't speak hardware. :-{
What about open a TTY (alt+ctrl+f2) is the shell better there?
Well, the font is back to normal, if not smaller; but it's so dim
I can barely see it's there. (The brightness is at max.)
Have you
tested the memory with memtest+ ?
No -- but I think I have a CD with it here somewhere, or can make
one. Stay tuned.
I'm afraid that the lack of 3D rendering capabilities is killing
you,
my son uses my old T43 and we're using Gnome but with the "Fallback"
mode, cause even with the i915 intel card it's dead slow.
Well, the chief purpose of this laptop is to run proprietary
software connected with a GPS -- preferably on a virtual XP. (Wine will
usually install and launch, but not connect to a GPS.) Looks like I'd
better upgrade <sigh>.
Meanwhile, unless memtest offers surprises, I may try installing
CentOS 6.4, and look for some other use, or give the machine away. I'd
rather get the data off it first, though ....
