If you installed XFCE 4.2 RC1 using their graphical installer and you
want XFCE to be your default desktop, you'll find that switchdesk will
not recognize that you have XFCE installed. So do this (as root):
ln -s /usr/local/bin/startxfce4 /usr/bin
And this (as yourself):
switchdesk xfce
And you'll be in business.
