If you run "hostname new.hostname.com" and update the file
/etc/hostname
that should set it up for you
Sorry, not correct. There is no /etc/hostname file and using the
hostname command does not change the hostname constantly.

For a correct answer see Paul's reply. Following this pay attention to
too adjust the /etc/hosts file. Its easier to use
system-config-network[-tui] to change the hostname.
Better don't change the hostname running X.
