Hello, Everyone I just purchased a Sandisk Sansa c250. The only problem is that it is real picky about id3 tags. All of my mp3's were recently re-tagged using Easytag. The c250 proceeds to lump them all as "Unknown Artist" and "Unknown Album." I then figured out that if I remove all the tags, and just tag the album and the artist thusly: id3tag -2 --album="Dancing In Jerusalem" --artist="Lamb" *.mp3
that such mp3's are accessible by the Album or the Artist. Since I know VERY little about regular expressions and shell scripts, I am rather unwilling to tag the track names and track numbers with id3tag. Hence the other problem, using the above referenced mp3's as an example: The above mp3's sort under "Lamb" as the artist and "Dancing In Jerusalem" as the album. But, since I have not set the track numbers, the mp3's appear to be listed in random order :( I will set the track numbers for the above example just for fun to see what happens... The result was not good. The files still sort in random order.
If any of you have had the same issue with this exact same model, or one made by the same company, I would like to hear your successes and your failures.
Also, if any of you are using any kind of mp3 player that does not make you jump through hoops like this just to get your mp3's sorted correctly, I would like to know that as well.
Thank you, Steven P. Ulrick

Hello This looks like what I needed, so I followed the following instructions: http://download.rockbox.org/manual/rockbox-sansac200/rockbox-buildch2.html#x...
As root, installation went perfectly.

The above linked instructions contained this, as well:
2.4. Running Rockbox
Remove your player from the computer’s USB port. Unplug any connected power supply and turn the unit off. When you next turn the unit on, Rockbox should load. When you see the Rockbox splash screen, Rockbox is loaded and ready for use.
So I did exactly as instructed. I unplugged the player from my computer and turned the player off. I then restarted the player and the Rockbox splash screen came up as referred to in the 2.4 section of the Rockbox documentation.Unfortunately, the screen then went black. I tried powering on the player again, and it appears to be deader than a doornail. This seems like such a shame, because I believe that Rockbox SHOULD work as described, and that I just had a unique (bad) experience. I hope I can at least get it powered up again and get Rockbox off the player, so I can return it to Staples and get my money back. Of course, I'd prefer to get Rockbox working on this player...

Cool! I envy you, I'm thinking to buy one of those too.

That's sad, but do try to get in touch with the RockBox guys, I'm sure they'll be of more help than I can give you :)

Hello again :) I have achieved a level of joy with this issue. My player is no longer toast :) I followed these instructions: Recovery mode of the Sansa e200
Recovery mode can be used to replace a bad .mi4 image on the player.
Accessing the recovery mode
* Power off * Turn ON lock/hold * Hold down record * Insert USB cable
You will find a 16MB USB drive now, this is the recovery partition.
I was then able to mount the player and remove the .rockbox directory. I am going to play with this a LITTLE bit more. Even though I'm pretty sure I didn't, I COULD have made a dumb mistake before... I will report back with my findings.

Picking this thread back, I've just bought an European model Sansa e260 (4GB) as a gift for my gf. It's now rockboxed, and it worked fine at first try.
Still is a bit quirky for a non geek, but the games surely did overcome :)
