remove all mplayer rpms, references etc.....
download apt from
freshrpms.net http://apt.freshrpms.net/
install apt-0.5.15cnc6-4.1.fc3.rf.rpm
do a apt-get update
then apt-get install mplayer

The mplayer manual suggests using
"mplayer dvd://1 -dvd-device /dev/hdc"
to start a dvd,with your browser look in
'file:///usr/share/doc/mplayer-1.0/DOCS/HTML/en/index.html'
