Hi folks
Can anyone tell me why it is imposible to set file:///usr/share/doc/HTML/index.html as my Home Page in FF2 on f7?

I can confirm that you aren't alone in that. The dialog shows and clicking OK does not cause an error, but it doesn't actually take.
I can drop that page onto the links bar and the link works.
Looking in about:config I see that page set for the post browser update and so forth, maybe it is hence disallowed.

I had the same problem. After futzing around, I discovered that it would accept /usr/share/doc/HTML/index.html (w/o the file://).
It now starts with the desired home page.
And now a question for you (or anyone). How does one make google startup on the normal google home page?
When I click the search button (magnifying glass at top right) I get www.google.com/firefox.
I've looked in the config file and read the docs. No hints how to change this.

Find the file "google.xml" and edit the line....
<SearchForm>http://www.google.com/firefox</SearchForm>

Thanks Ed.
How obvious! œ:-)
Is this or the other tweeks written up anywhere? It would be nice if these changes were all available through the GUI.

Thanks Dean That's sorted it.
I see someone else has sorted your question below.
Thanks again, M.
