this worked for me in FC2, yes.
but not now with FC3: crackling/hissing persistent + all audio sliders
ineffective?! (aumix, kmix etc.)
It seems I solved the problem by disabling artsd
alltogether
and setting xmms to use alsa with device fixed to hw:0,1.
For XMMS I have to turn on volume sliders Master and PCM.
For sounds from Mozilla (mail notification) I also need to pull
up the leftmost of the 4 sliders "VIA DX" something in alsamixer.
And yes, I have the udev fix installed.
Still I got one hang when running tux racer yesterday.
Might be sound-related, don't know.
No further keyboard hangs.
Still this leaves me with a bad fealing re the stability of this
distro. I guess there is still some work to be done before we
reach the level of Windows XP (sigh).
