hi. just tried to use the scanner in my epson rx425 mfp for the first time since upgrading (actually a brand new install) to fc9.
sane-find-scanner returns the following entries when run as root :
found USB scanner (vendor=0x0557, product=0x2008) at libusb:001:004 found USB scanner (vendor=0x04b8 [EPSON], product=0x080f [USB MFP]) at libusb:003:004
but scanimage -L returns no scanners. if i run scanimage with debugging enabled i get the following :
USB error: could not set config 1: Device or resource busy [sanei_usb] sanei_usb_open: libusb complained: could not set config 1: Device or resource busy [sanei_usb] Maybe the kernel scanner driver or usblp claims the interface? Ignoring this error...
but i don't know what this means. can anyone help me ?
oh, and this exact same setup worked fine in fc8.

This might sound entirely nutz, but I had a problem with my HP multi-function as it refused to scan. Drove me crazy, and when I opened the lid to remove the document, the scan bar started moving and there were a few click-click noises. You know, things that make you go "huh?". Darn thing worked like a charm after that. Your mileage may vary, but give that a whirl. Just open and close the lid and maybe that will reset that busy you're getting. :) Ric
thanks for the response. i found the cause to be the epson2 backend. i amended the dll.conf file to use the epson backend instead and now the scanner is listed via scanimage -L.
i'm now having problems making the scanner available to non root users permanently as fc9 appears to have changed from using udev to hal (see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=438827). in fc8 i simply amended /etc/udev/rules.d/60-libsane.rules but this isn't available in fc9.
i can chmod 666 the device file but this doesn't survive a reboot.
