As has been noted, the recommendation is to uninstall the "official"
Nvidia package and reinstall the RPMfusion version. It's the same
binary but with correct dependencies and will automatically produce a
new binary module when your kernel changes (usually ...)
The suggested tweaks to reencode every file sounds very annoying.
I've never had to do that and can play H.264 videos with no issues. I
have rpmfusion-free, rpmfusion-free-updates, rpmfusion-nonfree and
rpmfusion-nonfree-updates so all the required codecs are there.
Coming to the royalties thing, I have to admit I didn't know
that.
The royalties are for commercial use.
