Ah, interesting. The things I learn. Then it seems to be the
definition of "highway" that is different. In the states we would call
them freeways or interstates. So you were looking for side roads.

In France most of them are tollways but of a superb quality. Same is
true in Italy and no lines if you have a transponder to charge your
credit card. Quality of the German "freeways" ), free of toll but still
paid for in one way or the other, are of a much worse quality.
