Well, whatever guide you followed is out of date. That package has been replaced some time ago:
# yum install gecko-mediaplayer

mplayer-plugin is no longer being maintained. A replacement for it is gecko-mediaplayer
rpmfusion carries it. Just a yum install away. For more info check here:

My problem was solved as follow:
I do a bacup of next data
sudo cp -prv /usr/lib/mozilla /usr/lib/mozilla.backup cp -prv $HOME/.mozilla $HOME/.mozilla.backup
After do this, y was uninstall firefox
sudo rpm -e firefox-3.0.7-1.fc10.i386 sudo rpm -e flash-plugin-10.0.22.87-release.i386 sudo rpm -e gecko-mediaplayer-0.9.4-1.fc10.i386
Then delete next directories:
sudo rm -rf /usr/lib/mozilla sudo rm -rf $HOME/.mozilla
Next was install all again:

I just noticed today that firefox is not doing things nice with plugins and filed a couple of bugs and until things are fixed have removed the plugin wrapper and a couple of flash players.
It won't let you set the action for video/x-flv to save file.
Firefox re-enables disabled plugins on startup. This one's really cute, as you need to be root to disable and re-enable plugins normally.
I don't know whether or not this is related to what you are seeing or not. But it is relatively new behavior.
