Take a deep breath. Then, as root, run this one-liner:
# yum install kernel-headers
Most of us who have been down the VMware road have encountered potholes
like this. Some day you'll look back and laugh.

I should have followed up by saying, when you're sure the kernel-headers
package is installed, all you need to do is:
$ rpm -qil kernel-headers
This will list all of the component files and their locations.
