Desktop shortcut would work, but I would prefer a keyboard shortcut.
Also, my monitor acts as a USB hub. If I power it off, everything
plugged into it loses power. I would prefer that not happen.
I guess now I am more intrigued on why this particular command doesn't
want to work when assigned to the keyboard. I have plenty of other
commands assigned through gconf-editor that work just fine...

Another option could be to use a hotkey to switch to a different
workspace. One screen for the human wildlife, another screen for your
whatever.
No, nothing pornographic involved. Besides, I think my boss would find
it stranger if I were staring at a blank screen than if I were bored
and looking at eye candy :).
