Hi All,
Fedora 38
Is there a utility to send/receive texts to/from cell phones including graphics?
I have been using Thunderbird, but the cell phone companies mess with it and most do not go through.
I noticed that Windows 11 has an application for that.

KDE connect seems to work once I managed to get it set up. The interface is a little glitchy (can't use the scroll bars), but maybe that's because it's a KDE app running on Gnome.

Thank you!

Oh, you need the app on your phone as well. It connects over your network.

Can that even do pictures over SMS?
You can try "gammu" and/or "gnokii". They are command line tools for older phones.
Pictures are over mms.
I can do them, but typing is a pain in the neck

I don't know the MMS-situation in your country. At least in Europe, MMS are a dying species, with more and more telcos stopping to support MMS.
Also, those (increasingly fewer) who still support MMS typically demand pretty high extra-charges.

I have used MightyText and it works. I am not sure about SMS and MMS as it has been awhile since I used it. One has to register and get an account like all these apps. There is an 'add-on-or 'extension' that I used in Firefox that allows you to engage from Fedora. I hope I am not interrupting your conversation. Just saw something I have used. Hope it helps ... KDE connect doesn't require an account of any kind. It uses your local network to connect and lets you read and send SMS, remote control, file share, etc.
If you are not averse to a Google tools there is "Messages for Web" which runs from your web page.

Let me clarify. It works from a browser. I usually use Brave for this and it works fine.

I thought I'd take a look, and that landed me here: https://messages.google.com/web/authentication
From what I see of that, you have to be using messages from google on your phone as your SMS app, and it links with it.
It's not clear if that link is established to your phone, and your computer uses your phone as some kind of modem; or your phone authenticates it against google's message server, and your computer does it all over the internet (I'd guess this method).
I don't think you could use that if you used something else (Samsung has its own messages app that it'll use by default, likewise with iPhone). Of course you can always install the google message app on your phone, if you want to. I tried it years ago, but preferred Samsung's message app (back then).
