As of mid-morning, Konqueror is catatonic (does not fetch any web pages) and Firefox fetches a blank page when I try to access walmart.com.

That's kind of hard to tell from where I am. But generally, if two totally unrelated web browsers on your machine can no longer access web pages, that suggest a networking problem.
How does this machine access the internet?
