Maybe I should have left well enough alone, but I decided to install the latest GoogleEarth this morning; ver 4 was working well, but I had experienced some features from ver 5 in Windows that I liked. There were no error messages during the install but if I try to run it I get:
googleearth ./googleearth-bin: ./libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.9' not found (required by ./libgoogleearth_lib.so) ./googleearth-bin: ./libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.9' not found (required by ./libbase.so)
If I query my installed programs:
rpm -qa | grep libstdc++ libstdc++-4.4.1-2.fc11.i586 libstdc++-devel-4.4.1-2.fc11.i586
Surely, GoogleEarth does not require that I regress that lib version, does it? Anyone have ver5 running under Fedora11? Or, has glibcxx been removed from libstdc++? I'm not sure how to continue this investigation - any help appreciated...

---- try 'yum search libstdc++'
you will find older 'compatibility' libraries which are probably what is required.

cd /where/googleearth-bin/is/located mv libstdc++.so.6 libstdc++.so.6.saveit mv libgcc_s.so.1 libgcc_s.so.1.saveit

cd /where/googleearth-bin/is/located mv libstdc++.so.6 libstdc++.so.6.saveit mv libgcc_s.so.1 libgcc_s.so.1.saveit
So I tried to install and I got:
1. selinux violations, cured by 'chcon -t textrel_shlib_t /opt/google-earth/lib*.so'. 2. The above lib files didn't exist in the install directory. 3. segfault. Log file attached. 4. Attempt to uninstall with the supplied script results in Could not find a usable uninstall program. Aborting.
This is a x86_64 installation.

/usr/lib/libGL.so.1(glXMakeCurrentReadSGI+0x146)[0x1f9c961]
Works for me, F11 x86_64 with nvidia's X11 driver.
SELinux disabled.

Should have mentioned, nvidia driver from rpmfusion, desktop effects enabled.
The uninstaller script is looking for a program called loki-uninstall. yum doesn't seem to know anything about it. Any suggestions?

I installed google earth as myself (non-root), the program ended in ~/google-earth and the uninstaller in ~/.loki/installed/bin/Linux/x86

Thanks for all the replies. My installation is i386, F11, all patched up to latest testing repos. The above fix which I also found googling right after my post, turned out to be part of the solution. I also got about 6-8 selinux denial alerts for text relocation violations by various libs and I followed the sealert recommendations which fixed that. It seems to be working fairly well now, though a little sluggish.
