Silly question, but did you actually do a "mkinitrd" for the new kernel?
Hi,
Jose, just as a side note, hopefully you are aware of this:
http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-list/2004-August/msg01091.html
i.e. your sata drive will probably apear as /dev/sda or something like it

And do you have "alias scsi_hostadapter sata_sil" (or whatever the appropriate module is) in /etc/modprobe.conf?
Paul.

Yep, i have that in modprobe.conf and i did the mkinitrd and dont work. I place in grub and fstab my sata disk on sda. The problem is when i boot the initrd seems dont load the sil3112 cause before i see the line. This only happends when i try to compile the vanilla kernel becouse i use fedora 2.6.8.1 kernel and works fine for me, that is my trouble im making crazyyyyyyyyy

One option is simply to run without an initrd and compile everything in.
Please note that you need an initrd to mount the root filesystem by label. Without one, you will have to modify grub.conf to say something like kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.8.1 ro root=/dev/sda6
This is a slightly modified version of my grub.conf: I'm currently running a custom-complied vanilla 2.6.8.1.
Hope this helps,
James.
