I wouldn't use ftp at all but that's me. There are a few ssh clients
for Windows but i have never used them, i know some of them require
licensing but not much more than that, though I would expect there to
be a freebie available somewhere but be careful where you download
from.
Google for "putty sftp". There's am sftp and ssh client, along with a
few others. They've worked well for me.
