I now have X11 via ssh working on F9, but refresh of the remote X11 window is extremely slow, even over a 1GB switch. Is there a way to speed up the refresh?
Are you using the -C (compress) switch to ssh? If you aren't, try it.

Using the -C flag and invoking XMaple, it takes 1'38" to load the initial screens. This over a 1G switch. The delay is repeated every time the maple windows need to be repainted. The delay makes remote X11 way too slow for XMaple.
Something must be deeply wrong there. Here it takes 25 secs for the main windows to get into a state where I can type in it. And that's through a not blazingly fast adsl + wireless, on a netbook.

Are you running XMaple 12 in your test, or some older version?
Good question! It's v.9 only.
