In the month since this thread was last active, there have been a couple of threads related to CS43xx sound chips. After having tryed all the suggestions, the closest I got to sound was a message that module CS4232.ko could not be loaded. I haven't been moved to try building a custom kernel yet, but I'm confident that if I did, I'd find that support for CS4232 sound had not been generated in the default kernels. Cheers, Gordon
