The X server traditionally ran on console vt7, till a while back someone decided to move it to vt1. Now that I'm used to that, they've moved it back to vt7 again. What's going on?
F12, KDE 4.3.4, Xorg 1.7.4
If it is any use to you; I am using Xorg 1.7.4 with Gnome. vt1 still runs my Xwindow. vt2..6 are blank consoles; vt7+ blank screens.
I might try Gnome just to see what happens. It's not a big deal, but I had a moment's panic when Ctrl-Alt-F1 failed to produce my desktop.
I use F11 and after a fresh boot X starts in VT1, but if I logout (not reboot) and log back in (basically every time gdm is restarted) it goes to VT7. I believe this is a result of incomplete work when the Xorg people decided to switch to VT1 from their usual VT7.
Hope this answers your doubts.
You seem to be right Suvayu. I logged out (not restart) and logged back in. I got the same results as Patrick -- Xorg running on vt7. I then shut down and rebooted -- Xorg was back on vt1.
