I am having the same problem as before. I commented out the alias line and
that worked. I was able to get online (dhcp and statically setting and ip)
and browse around. Then I tried to use up2date to get updates for FC2 and
it hung up while trying to get rpm headers. I cancelled the updates since
it wasn't doing anything after 4 hours and now I can't get back online. The
alias line is still commented out. The specific card that I have is a
Xircom XE2000 10/100 Network PC Card. I am using a Dell Inspiron 3800 with
FC2. Any ideas what's going on? I've pasted some of the troubleshooting
I've done below.

"Perhaps commenting out the line :
alias eth0 xirc2ps_cs
in /etc/modprobe.conf is necessary to avoid conflict with pcmcia socket
driver."
tried, worked, now doesn't work, still commented out
"Do that and either reboot, or try
rmmod xirc2ps_cs
service pcmcia restart"
tried after it stopped working, does nothing
"what does cardctl ident show you?"
open_sock(): no such device
"what does ifconfig say after you boot?"

And for both Buddy and Scot ....
running cardctl without any options will give the command syntax and the
list of available commands.
Man cardctl helps also.
