Unless you already have 32 bit libraries on your system this should
not be the case. What does this tell you:
$ rpm -qa --qf "%{NAME}-%{ARCH}\n" | grep -v -E
'x86_64|noarch|gpg-pubkey'

I run x86_64 with xfce,
sometimes it does try to install "multilib"
I use an exclude=*i686* in /etc/yum.conf
to prevent such multilib installs.
