Right now, I have an mp3 player mounted in /media. The device is /dev/sdd and fdisk -l shows that it has four partitions, but none of them show up in /dev as /dev/sdbN and /etc/mtab shows it mounted simply as /dev/sdd.
I've no idea why that should be (although it looks wierd). I was merely pointing out that Rick Steven's earlier reply specifically said to mount /dev/sdb1, which the OP seems to have misread.
