What to prune?
by Beartooth
I run Mate under F30. I assume Mate calls a lot of Gnome code
(most or all of what Gnome3 didn't change). So I never worry about any
new app bringing Gnome stuff with it.
Until recently, I also made minor but important use of Konqueror
and K3B; I've noticed, when sometimes I've added them to a straight Mate
install, that I seem to get a whopping share of the rest of KDE with
them. I do not use anything else from KDE as far as I know; but I know I
don't know much.
BQ1 (Big Question 1) If I were to remove all of KDE, how would I
do it? Find KDE in dnfdragora and follow my nose?? I had thought I could
command "dnf remove kde" or "dnf remove KDE," and then go through the
resulting list with a fine-tooth comb; but neither of those commands does
anything, claiming instead not to have found anything.
BQ2 How much, at an educated guess, would I remove? Or is there a
way actually to ascertain how much? Would it be worth it?

Problem with Gnome remaining offline
by Robin Lee
Hi
I have a laptop with Fedora 30 and on it I use VPN. Now after I
upgraded from Fedora 29 I've got the problem that Gnome applications
like Evolution and Gnome Software don't work anymore because they think
the computer is offline when VPN is activated. Also the wifi icon in
the upper right hand side corner has a question mark over it. But in
actuality there is the computer is online, I can use applications like
Firefox normally. Also in Gnome Settings -> Wifi it tells me it is
connected.
First questions - can I some how tell applications like Evolution and
Gnome Software to just ignore whether it thinks it is online or
offline?
Second question - how could I find out why Gnome thinks it is offline?
Cheers

Default application for some file typeHi
by Joachim Backes
Hi guys,
how to define the default application for opening files with some type
in F30, for example the app for opening PDF files (acroread or evince
are examples)?
My DESKTOP envs are Cinnamon and GNOME.
All hints are welcome.
Kind regards

New User
by Douglas G Mckendrick
Evening all,
After 9 years of not using linux, I've finally come back to the fold....and
tada! I've installed fedora....23. I've just used Yum to install GCC and a
few others, updated the system etc.
Is there any user groups in the Bedfordshire or Buckinghamshire area?
Apologies if it's off topic, but I'm a decade out of touch.
Thanks in advance.
Kind regards

need something to fill in pdf forms.
by home user
(f29)
I need something, preferably from one of the usual repos (so I can
easily install it with dnf), that I can use to fill in a pdf form. I
can view the form just fine, but nothing seems to have functionality for
me to fill it in. I did not see anything in "dnfdragora".

Why Must I Do "dnf clean all" Before Updating Will Proceed?

On most occasions I have to clean files before I am allowed to update
a Fedora 30 system:
garry@ifr$ sudo dnf upgrade
[sudo] password for garry:

Fedora 30 - x86_64 - Updates 226 kB/s | 659 kB
Failed to synchronize cache for repo 'updates'

Does anyone know what is special about this system that it requires
clean all before it will update? I have two other systems that never
experience the same problem.

qemu -hda /dev/sdX -m 1024 -vga std
I installed qemu (dnf install qemu).
Then
qemu -hda /dev/sdc -m 1024 -vga std
bash: qemu: command not found...
What I am doing wrong?
Thank.
