F29 virtualbox installs wrong kernel-devel
by Mayavimmer
When dnf installing virtualbox it installed:
kernel-devel-4.20.14-200.fc29.x86_64
...but my kernel is:
kernel-core-4.20.13-200.fc29.x86_64
So naturally virtualbox crashes with:
$ LANG=C virtualbox
WARNING: The vboxdrv kernel module is not loaded. Either there is no module
available for the current kernel (4.20.13-200.fc29.x86_64) or
it failed to
load. Please try load the kernel module by executing as root
dnf install akmod-VirtualBox kernel-devel-4.20.13-200.fc29.x86_64
akmods --kernels 4.20.13-200.fc29.x86_64 && systemctl restart
systemd-modules-load.service
You will not be able to start VMs until this problem is fixed.
The 4.20.13 devel package seems missing:
# LANG=C dnf install akmod-VirtualBox kernel-devel-4.20.13-200.fc29.x86_64

I have a device setup instruction manual on a read-only disk which this
fedora 29 system will not copy. Is there a way around this?

QGIS error & F29
by Max Pyziur
Greetings,
My use of QGis Desktop is occassional; when I do use it, I construct
layers using PostGIS & PostgreSQL.
The key component that facilitates this in QGis is a Python plugin called
DB Manager.
When I started Qgis today, there was an error message that appeared
something like this:
Couldn't load PyQGIS. Python support will be disabled.
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "", line 1, in
File "/usr/lib64/python2.7/site-packages/qgis/gui/__init__.py", line 27,
in
from qgis._gui import *
RuntimeError: the PyQt4.QtCore module failed to register with the sip
module
Python version:
2.7.15 (default, Oct 15 2018, 15:26:09)
[GCC 8.2.1 20180801 (Red Hat 8.2.1-2)]
QGIS version:
2.18.20 'Las Palmas', exported
After clicking away the error away, the existing layers that I had built
using PostGIS/PostgreSQL were still available in my key critical project.
However, when I went to look for DB Manager, it wasn't available.
After some searching, I upgraded to QGIS 3.6 from a non-Fedora repository
(the guidance is here: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/53716778/the-pyqt4-qtcore-module-fail...)
and now I have access to the DB Manager functionality.
Is the Fedora/QGis community aware of this issue?
Thanks!

Apache and RewriteRule
by Alex
Hi all,
I've already asked this question on a number of apache forums and have
received no response. I hoped someone here could help me understand
why this rewriterule doesn't work:
RewriteRule ^/index.php\?option=login$ /register [R=301,L]
This is on a joomla-3.9 system running on fedora29. It fails with
"COMPONENT NOT FOUND", as if it thinks the option=login is a joomla
component that it's trying to run. Of course I don't want it to
interpret the URI, but instead just redirect.
I've tried adding this to the .htaccess in the document root, as well
as the apache config for the domain. I have other redirects in that
config that I believe are working properly.
I've also tried using redirects:
Redirect 301 /index.php?option=login https://linuxsecurity.com/register
Here is the rewrite output during a request:

Scanning with HP4620 . Ed Greshko.
by Ger van Dijck
Hi Ed ,
When running scanimage -L only the laptopcamera is discovered as scanning
device (Dell Inspiron 3741). So the scanning function is missing .
Your explanation for the Bonjour software is clear : So I did following :
I installed root-net-bonjour-6.14.04-1.fc29 , and root-6.16.10-3.fc29 ;
both x86_64 . (Avahi etc.)
Then I did run hp-get < ipnumber > (All In Officejet HP4620 on WLAN.)
And praise the Lord ! Everyting functionates , running hp-check I get 2
warnings ( HP printer is not hplip installed and /.hplip/hplip.conf
could not access file , no such file or directory ) and 1 error ( Cups
packcage is missing or not running ).
So the scan problem is solved , but I still can not follow the logic :
Maybe out there is someone who can explain.
I must thank all of you for help , Ed Greshko in particular for his
patience .
Ger van Dijck .
