Both ISO images (the combined Workstation & Live ISO, and also
the Server ISO) work without network connection. So if you download
the combined Workstation & Live ISO you can install the Workstation
edition from that. Without any network.
When you boot from the combined Workstation & Live ISO image, it
starts up a Fedora Live system first (hence the name) and then asks
if you want to continue using the Live system or if you want to
install the Workstation edition to your harddisk (without network).
Sounds a little confusing at first because Fedora sometimes calls
it Workstation, and sometimes Live. But in fact it's just one single
ISO image for both. The user decides how he wants to use the ISO.
Hope that helps ... Andreas

different settings for touchpad and mouse
by Hiisi
Hi there!
Using F23 gnome. Because touchpad left button is rather worn out on my
laptop I decided to swap buttons functions. However now when a mouse is
connected it is also swapped. Any way to have different presets for mouse
and touchpad? I want to have touchpad with swapped buttons and mouse with
usual setup.
TIA

Mate: compiz emerald won't start automatically
by Manfred Lotz
Running Fedora 23 I got a problem to get compiz up with Emerald after
startup.
I have:
% gsettings get org.mate.session.required-components windowmanager
'compiz-mate-emerald'
% gsettings get org.mate.Marco.general compositing-manager :(
true
When loggin into Mate I end up without any window manager. After
starting compiz-mate-emerald all if fine.
Any idea what might be wrong?
Thanks.

Fedora 22 and 23 don't (fully) recognize Canon camera; Fedora 20 and 21 did
by George Avrunin
I have a Canon EOS SL1 camera (also known as an EOS 100D). With Fedora
20 and 21, when I connected the camera to a USB port, it was recognized and
the KDE device notifier would ask whether I wanted to open it with the
file manager or download photos with digikam. Digikam also recognized the
camera when it was connected. The camera is supported by libghoto2 and
uses the PTP protocol.
But with Fedora 22 and 23, the camera is not fully recognized and I can't
download photos directly from the camera. (I can use a card reader, of
course.) In /var/log/messages, I see the following:
Nov 11 11:17:01 g kernel: usb 4-1.4.1: new high-speed USB device number 9
using ehci-pci Nov 11 11:17:02 g kernel: usb 4-1.4.1: New USB device
found, idVendor=04a9, idProduct=3270
Nov 11 11:17:02 g kernel: usb
4-1.4.1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0 Nov 11
11:17:02 g kernel: usb 4-1.4.1: Product: Canon Digital Camera
Nov 11 11:17:02 g kernel: usb 4-1.4.1: Manufacturer: Canon Inc.
Nov 11 11:17:02 g mtp-probe: checking bus 4, device 9:
"/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.0/usb4/4-1/4-1.4/4-1.4.1"
Nov 11 11:17:02 g mtp-probe: bus: 4, device: 9 was not an MTP device
The device notifier doesn't notice the camera (it says "no devices
available) and digikam can't see it. I've tried other cables and usb
ports (and even another computer). I use KDE, but this doesn't look like
it's a KDE issue.
The only other camera with a usb connection thta I have at hand right now
is an old Canon Powershot G9, which gets similar messages about not being
an MTP device (but /var/log/messages shows a serial number for the camera).
This also worked with earlier Fedoras.
I'm not sure what changed from F21 to F22. I was hoping that things would
work again with F23. Any suggestions? I don't understand udev very
well...

dnf gets stuck on poor connections
by Suvayu Ali
Hi,
Lately I have been on unreliable connections. I noticed that after I
have my laptop running for a few days, dnf stops working. Any dnf
command hangs indefinitely. I can get back to the shell again by
killing the process with SIGKILL. It seems to me this happens when the
dnf-makecache service gets stuck. I have tried restarting it, but it
does not help. Restarting the dnf-makecache timer does not help either.
Of course all this goes away after a reboot. But then that's not really
a solution.
Any ideas anyone?
TIA,
