Fedora 17 sometimes doesn't wake up from sleep; can't find OS ???
by linux guy
Recently the F17 (x64) install on my Dell XPS 17 isn't waking up from
the sleep state. I'm not sure if I'm invoking it to go into sleep or
if its an inactivity induced sleep. Prior to recently, it always woke
up from sleep without any issues.
Furthermore, once in a while when I reset after not being able to wake
it from sleep, I'm getting an Operating System not Found error. It
always finds the OS if I reset it again.
Is anyone else having resume/booting issues with recent kernels after
entering the sleep state ?
Is anyone else experiencing OS not found issues ?

Turn off monitor (TV) shutdown
by Todor Petkov
Hello all,
I have Sapphire EDGE-HD Mini PC, attached to a LG TV with HDMI cable.
The OS is Fedora18, from live CD.
After 1 hour, the TV turns off. I have tried several things:
1) /usr/bin/gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.screensaver
idle-activation-enabled false
2) editing /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-local.conf and adding:
Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "ServerLayout0"
Option "BlankTime" "0"
Option "StandbyTime" "0"
Option "SuspendTime" "0"
Option "OffTime" "0"
EndSection
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"
Option "DPMS" "false"
EndSection
However, it does not help. When I grep DPMS in /var/log/Xorg.0.log, it
says:
[ 26.451] Initializing built-in extension DPMS
[ 26.654] (II) RADEON(0): No DPMS capabilities specified
[ 26.709] (==) RADEON(0): DPMS enabled
Can someone give me a hint how to disable it completely?
Thanks in advance,

Just got that very device for my daughters for Christmas. F18 works great on them. I can't recall any issues with installation either.

How do you keep contacts in Fedora/KDE?
by Timothy Murphy
As a matter of interest, how do those of you running Fedora/KDE
keep your contacts?
I have a rather messy combination of Google contacts,
KAddressBook and LDAP,
but would like to organise something simpler.
I suspect the simplest solution might be to go over entirely
to Google contacts, as I want to keep my contacts in sync
with my Android phone.
But what do people running Fedora/KDE usually do?

Fedora on Samsung 15" ultrabook?
by Jack Craig
Hi Folks,
I am wondering if anyone has tried Fedora (17/18) on a Samsung ultrabook.
http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/laptops/NP900X4C-A01US
the hw specs are in the range of my desktop and i'd like to replace a lost
macbook, but short on resources,...
if the wireless worked, it might be a good solution.
F17 is doing wonderfully on my desktop, so i wonder how about roaming?? ...
anyone? Thx! jackc...

Firefox HTML5 videos with h.264 and WebM
by Thomas Waldecker
Hi List,
is somebody using Firefox without the Adobe Flashplugin, and using the
HTML5 video features?
I removed the Adobe Flashplugin. On Youtube some videos are working, some
not. On Vimeo nothing works.
With Midori vimeo works, youtube doesn't work.
I would like firefox to support h.264 videos.
Kind regards

Weird returned page from curl cmd
by bruce
Hi.
Trying to do a simple curl fetch of a page. I get the data, but when I
compare the page to what I see in the FF/Opera browser, I get a difference.
The key section on the browser is:
51% Men, 49% Women
The same section from the curl is:
51.02081505702209%
Men,
48.97918494297791%
Women
The actual test curl cmd I use is:
curl -o "dee.txt"
http://www.collegeview.com/schoolfacts/auburn-university-main-campus/figures
It appears that the "%" causes some sort of expansion/rounding to occur in
the data...
Is there an attribute I should invoke that I missed. Didn't see anything
when I scanned the man pages, or looked over google...
Thanks

fedora18: Wireless Broadcom Corporation BCM43142 802.11b/g/n

Hi, My netbook Asus have this network Wireless controller:

and not work out of the box or with rpmfusion's wl driver.
For now I have found this howto:
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/archive/index.php/t-282334.html
and with this procedure:

the wl driver work fine.
My question is: There is an official Fedora driver (embedded, akmod or
kmod) for this (bcp43142) wireless network card?
Thanks.

Printing jobs
by Richard Vickery
can anyone help me figure out what is going on here? I'll look at it in the
morning, but still might not find it on my own.
SELinux is preventing /usr/lib/cups/filter/hpcups from search access on the
directory /var/lib/hp.
***** Plugin catchall (100. confidence) suggests
***************************
If you believe that hpcups should be allowed search access on the hp
directory by default.
Then you should report this as a bug.
You can generate a local policy module to allow this access.
Do
allow this access for now by executing:
# grep hpcups /var/log/audit/audit.log | audit2allow -M mypol
# semodule -i mypol.pp
