You misunderstand - I installed the system originally using qemu-kvm on
a PHYSICAL (not virtual) disk and then when I was happy that nearly
everything was working properly, I rebooted the machine as a NON-virtual
ie a normal physical machine.

Phil.

Fed 16 + Broadcom wlan 4312 + kernel-3.2.1-3
by Alexander Volovics
I have a Broadcom wlan 4312 [14e4:4315] in my laptop.
After the latest kernel update to kernel-3.2.1-13 I decided to install
the necessary firmware heeding the following dmesg output:
[ 82.515047] b43-phy0 ERROR: Firmware file "b43/ucode15.fw" not found
[ 82.515054] b43-phy0 ERROR: Firmware file "b43-open/ucode15.fw" not found
[ 82.515060] b43-phy0 ERROR: You must go to
http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/b43#devicefirmware and
download the correct firmware for this driver version. Please carefully
read all instructions on this website.
The website suggests downloading broadcom-wl-5.100.138.tar.bz2 if using
the b43 driver from the 3.2 kernel.
I did that but then this happens:
b43-fwcutter -w /lib/firmware wl_apsta.o
Sorry, the input file is either wrong or not supported by b43-fwcutter.
This file has an unknown MD5sum e1b05e268bcdbfef3560c28fc161f30
b43-fwcutter in Fed 16 is version 0.14 and indeed the FW15 file
supported by b43-fwcutter version 0.14 has a different md5sum.
The wireless.kernel.org site also advices using b43-fwcutter version
0.15 but this version does not seem to be available for fed 16.
Can this be the problem?

Hey Phil,
I'm assuming that you are using a graphical desktop. Can you adjust the
resolution with System/Preferences/Display?

[F16] update kernel, problem virtualbox
by Paolo De Michele
hi list,
I have problems after upgrading a kernel on fedora 16
the current kernel:
Linux homelinux 3.2.2-1.fc16.i686 #1 SMP Thu Jan 26 03:38:31 UTC 2012
i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
virtualbox current version:
VirtualBox-OSE.i686 4.1.8-2.fc16
When starting a virtual machine I get the following error:
Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908)
The VirtualBox Linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) is probably not loaded.
If you installed or VirtualBox OSE package recently you need to restart
the computer for the driver to load.
Alternatively, you may attempt to load the driver by issuing the
following command with system administrator (root) privileges:
'/etc/sysconfig/modules/VirtualBox-OSE.modules'
the output /etc/sysconfig/modules/VirtualBox-OSE.modules :
ERROR: modinfo: could not find module vboxdrv
ERROR: modinfo: could not find module vboxnetflt
ERROR: modinfo: could not find module vboxnetadp
the other time I solved with the following command:
/sbin/service vboxdrv setup
the output is:
Redirecting to /bin/systemctl setup vboxdrv.service
Unknown operation setup
does anyone know help me?
thanks in advance

The missing option in the program apper
by Aaron Konstam
I know I ran apper and I used an option called get and remove software
and it removed apper.
Now I can't find that option again so I am going to have to apologize
for the facts I reported.
I can't explain what happened so I will just deny it happened ;-)

Opening ssh window on prescribed desktop
by Timothy Murphy
I'm running Fedora-16/KDE .
I'm not sure if this is a Fedora question, or a KDE question.
But I can create a script to open an ssh window on a remote machine,
by right-clicking on the f-icon, and choosing Edit Applications ...
There I create a New Item, with instructions to run "ssh -Y alfred-vpn",
opening a terminal window for this purpose.
That still works fine.
But I used to be able to right-click on the bar at the top of the ssh page,
go to Advanced, and there specify which desktop
I wanted the window to open in.
This facility seems to have disappeared.
As an alternative, is there any option I can give to ssh (or any command)
to say that I want it to run eg in Desktop 5?

F16 freshclam "Notify Clamd"
by Frank Murphy
How do I fix this,
Google has a lot on:
"Can't connect to clamd on 127.0.0.1:3310"
I don't have amavis installed,
which can fight for connection.
Just worried about making a security leak.
