No sound over hdmi after suspend
by Karol Babioch
Hi,
I'm on Fedora 14 with the following sound setup: I've got my television
connected over hdmi using the onboard graphics card of the Core i3 550.
Futhermore I have a sound system connected to my mainboard using TOSLINK.
This works great right after the reboot. However after a suspend I have
no sound on my television. There must be something wrong within one of
the sound modules. I've also tried a vanilla 2.6.37 kernel, which hasn't
resolved this issue :(.
In order to get this fixed (and to get sound without rebooting time and
again) I need to figure out which is the responsible module. My guess
would be snd_hda_codec_intelhdmi.
However I can't figure out how to reload this module. Neither rmmod nor
modprobe seem to work and both claim that the module is still in use.
The force parameter doesn't help :(.
I've also tried to unload the whole sound stack, but there are a lot of
modules and I can't figure out how to unload even just one of them:
[root@htpcf ~]# lsmod | grep -i snd
snd_hda_codec_intelhdmi 9993 1
snd_hda_codec_realtek 298572 1
snd_hda_intel 24479 1
snd_hda_codec 86743 3
snd_hda_codec_intelhdmi,snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_hda_intel
snd_hwdep 6392 1 snd_hda_codec
snd_pcm 80190 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec
snd_timer 19892 1 snd_pcm
snd 63984 9
snd_hda_codec_intelhdmi,snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_hwdep,snd_pcm,snd_timer
soundcore 6576 1 snd
snd_page_alloc 7559 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm
What would be the right way (order) to unload snd_hda_codec_intelhdmi?

Brasero has lost its mind!
by Richard Shaw
I've had the problem for some time where after burning the CD/DVD
get's mounted and then Brasero gives an error saying it can't eject
the disk. It wasn't effecting the burns so I ignored it.
Today I tried to burn a CD ISO file (system rescue cd) and after a bad
burn I tried again. Now, even after a reboot, it calculates the
checksum and then ejects the blank disc.
Brasero has been buggy for me (and apparently others, I've found) for
a while. Shouldn't the default burning app for Gnome get a little more
attention?
Anyone else having issues?
I know I can install k3b but brasero should work and I don't like
having to install all the dependencies (i.e. half of KDE) just to burn
a disc.
Thanks,
Richard

Screen goes black but set not to in preferences
by Florian Ludwig
Hi,
my laptop's (Thinkpad X201t) screen goes black if I don't use it for
some time (between 6 and 15 minutes). In the gnome power management
preferences the option "Put display to sleep when inactive for" is set
to never - for both "On AC Power" and "On Battery Power".
This also happens if watching a movie using totem.
If an external monitor is connected both screens go black but the
external one gets back on after like 3 seconds.

But it seems nothing changed.
I am really happy for any pointers anyone can provide how to solve this.
Thank you in advance,

SSH Support on Remote Desktop Viewer
by Michael Liendl
Hi,
I want to connect to my SSH server using the Remote Desktop Viewer on
Fedora. But when I go to "Connect" I have no option to choose "SSH" as
protocol. There is only "VNC" available. What can I do to enable this
option like it is on Ubuntu.
Best regards,

Thanks JB,
a) yes there is a newer firmware (came out in 2005, rather than the 2002
version I'm running!) B U T..... it's a Windoze .exe file & how does
one get it to a device in F14 (no floppy, Win XP running on a Virtual
Machine? My searches of the 'net have not left me with anything very
definite.
b) here's the tail output....

rdiff-backup problem
by Benjamin
Hello everyone!
Since this weekend (and i also remember that problem to have occured
earlier) i have a problem with rdiff-backup.
When I try to backup my files (with the same command a always used) i
get the following error (see below). At first a few notes on my
behavior: I normally backup all my files with the command see below.
Because that did not work with the following response:
[root@Banjo Benji]# rdiff-backup '/home/Benji'

Previous backup seems to have failed, regressing destination now.

Re: QR code login through GDM?
by Patrick Kobly
Now... I could imagine a use for this tech for auth. With a mobile device, you could create a soft token - where the qr code changes frequently - like with a securid. Maybe even as part of a challenge response scheme - where the challenge is displayed to the mobile device as a qr code and the device displays the response as a qr code. I am unaware of anything existing that does this. But I certainly wouldn't see a static printed qr code as useful for AuthN in just about any scenario.
