ls - sounds like you are looking for AXFR from the name server this
should work:
dig @ns-server.foo.com -t AXFR domain.com
Hessiod - sorry can't help with that ...

I have just bought Dell Inspiron M501R AMD Phenom Quad Core, which was

Running Blender 2.56 on Fedora 13 and 14
by Valent Turkovic
Hi galls and guys,
I saw that there are no up to date instuctions for getting Blender
2.56 running on Fedora, not even on Blender wiki so I wrote up this
blog post:
http://bit.ly/gLQgFS or long version:
http://kernelreloaded.blog385.com/index.php/archives/blender-2-56-on-fedo...
I would like to ask you to try out these instructions and post any
feedback that you have, especially if there are some errors in
instructions.
Also if there are some Blender artists in Fedora design team please
test if all Blender functions work correctly.
I saw some Blender 2.56 packages in Koji for F15, does anybody know if
Blender 2.56 will ship with Fedora 15?
I talked with few Blender artists that I know and asked them which
version of Blender they used. They all replied that they used 2.56 and
not 2.49. They all claim that Blender 2.56 is rock solid on both OSX
and Windows, I don't know Blender artists that use Linux :(
So if Blender 2.56 turns out to be stable could it be made to replace
aging 2.45 in Fedora 14 and 15?
Cheers,
Valent.

Problem with Winamp artwork in Audacious
by Dick Roark
I have a self-inflicted problem with Audacious. It worked fine until I got
the "great" idea to try out some of the Winamp artwork, I think the Winamp
artwork is not nearly as useful as the original artwork. Now my problem is
that I don't know how to get rid of the Winamp stuff and get the original
Audacious artwork.
Can someone pass along how to get rid of the Winamp images and back to the
original Audacious images?
Thanks for anything.

proftpd and virtualhost
by Rafnews
Hi,
i use fedora as webserver for testing purposes.
i installed proftpd server and i would like to have several ftp servers (so
i guess virtualhost must be used) for each website that we are testing.
however, i'm new to proftpd and something i do not understand in proftpd
documentation.
for each virtual ftp server, i would like to have a particula user
account...i guess that user account must be also virtual user account.
1. how can i do that ?
next, if i have 2 websites stored on:
/var/www/html/website1
/var/www/html/website2
i would like to have 1 virtual ftp server which all only user website1 to
connect only on website1 directory and the same thing for website2 (user and
directory).
2. how can i do that ?
thank a lot.

username, password and proxy setting for yum and in general
by Rafnews
Hi,
at work i installed Fedora 14 and i needed to export http_proxy variable
because we use a proxy.
however, for now it is written in plaintext in .bashrc file and in yum.conf
file.
this has 2 issue.
1. my username and password are human readable
2. in our company password must be changed every 60 days.
a) how can i store username and password in a not human readable way
(encrypted for example) a still make it available for yum, or ther purposes
like firefox ?
b) how can i do to only once change it and that change should be applicable
for all purposes like yum, firefox, and so on... ?
thank a lot,

OOcalc plotting performance issue
by Mark Eggers
I'm having some pretty severe performance problems with OpenOffice
Calc.
Here's the environment:
Intel 2.67 GHz P4 (yes it's underpowered, but see below)
NVidia 7600 GS over-clocked with 260.19.36 binary driver
1.5 GB memory
Fedora 14 latest patches
The applications:
OpenOffice Calc 3.3.0-20.2
Gnumeric 1.10.12-1
KSpread 2.2.2-4
Sun JRE 1.6.0_22 (instead of 1.6.0_23 to work around tmpdir bug)
The plot:
Size: 8700 points
Plot: XY scatter, points and lines, no smoothing
The problem:
Increasing the horizontal size of the graph takes approximately 10
minutes. During this time the CPU is at 100% and the mouse cursor
remains as a double-headed arrow, preventing interaction with the
rest of the desktop. This occurs regardless of windowing system (KDE,
Gnome, WindowManager).
Decreasing the horizontal size works reasonably well (about 10
seconds).
A bit more detail:
Fedora 14
OO 3 / JRE 1.6.0_22 vertical increase size - 10 seconds
horizontal increase size - 600 seconds
gnumeric vertical increase size - 2 seconds
horizontal increase size - 6 seconds
kspread segmentation fault creating graph
XP/Professional (same hardware)
00 3 / JRE 1.6.0_23 vertical increase size - 5 seconds
horizontal increase size - 30 seconds
Excel 2000 vertical increase size - 1 second
horizontal increase size - 2 seconds
Are other people experiencing similar relative performance issues? If
this is not an artifact, where should it be reported?
Yes, I can use some Perl scripts and gnuplot as workarounds.
. . . . just my two cents

Skype - No sound from microphone
by Kostas Sfakiotakis
I have an issue with Skype .
Although am able to hear sounds ( in a call i can hear the caller ) the
caller
can´t hear me . System wide i have sounds.
The version of Skype am using is :
skype-2.1.0.81-fc10.i586
Now the odd thing is that if i go to PulseAudio Volume Control under
Multimedia
under the Recording devices i can "see" the microphone and the system
can hear
me speaking since the volume increases and decreases accordingly .
Theoretically
at least that should mean that the microphone is actually being detected
and the
proper modules have been loaded. One last thing that might be relevant
is that i
don´t actually own a seperate microphone but it´s build in my Logitech
Web Camera.
The thing is that Skype actually knows about the Web Camera since if i
test it under
the video controls i can see my face . If i make the sound tests i can
hear the sound
if i make the test call i can hear the test person speaking but i can´t
hear my voice
. I have looked in the net but i don´t want to mess anything else ,
since everywhere
else the sound is working ( admitted it´s the playback sound and not the
recording thing
that am hearing ) . I would be glad to try even any other application
that speaks
the Skype protocol if that thing would make things easier without
messing up anything .
