some i686 libraries for Fedora 13 x64 missing
by n2xssvv.g02gfr12930
I assume the missing i686 libraries for Fedora 13 x64 are in the
pipeline. This caused me a few minor headaches, but could be more like
migraines to those less experienced. Otherwise Fedora 13 seems fine, and
I'll start on kdevelop 4 usage, which I've been long anticipating.

How to set monitor refresh rate more than 60hz in Fedora 13
by Ravi Saini
I have installed the Fedora 13 on my computer today. I am using HCL's 17"
Monitor whose screen resolution is 1024*768 @85 hz. But in Fedora 13, I
can't be able to set my monitor's refresh rate more than 60 hz due to which
the screen is blurring. There is no Xorg.conf file in /etc/X11. Please help
me.

64 versus 32 flash mystery
by Tom Horsley
I tried the 64 bit flash plugin, and while it mostly worked,
several sites just showed an error telling me that I
need a version of flash > 9.
If I install the 32 bit flash from the adobe repo,
those same sites work fine.
Yet both the 64 and 32 bit flash report a version > 10
when I check the version at adobe's version check.
Any idea why some sites think the 64 bit flash
is a version number < 9?
(I tried a google search on this, but all I find
are thousands of hits on pages that contain the
error, maybe there is an explanation in all those
hits, but I can't find it :-).

Fedora 13 AdobeReader_enu nss-softokn-freebl multiple version conflict
by Rich Emberson
Yesterday I installed Fedora 13, first on my laptop
and then my main machine. Both are 64bit with
nvidia cards.
On the laptop everything went as expected, but on
the big box I could not install AdobeReader_enu.
When I try:
yum install AdobeReader_enu
I get the error message:
Transaction Check Error:
package nss-softokn-freebl-3.12.4-19.fc13.x86_64 (which is newer than
nss-softokn-freebl-3.12.4-17.fc13.i686) is already installed
Now, on the laptop:
rpm -qa --qf '%{NAME} %{VERSION}-%{RELEASE} %{ARCH}\n' | grep
nss-softokn-freeb
Yields:
nss-softokn-freebl 3.12.4-19.fc13 x86_64
nss-softokn-freebl 3.12.4-17.fc13 i686
while on the big box I get:
nss-softokn-freebl 3.12.4-19.fc13 x86_64
So how do I install both the x86_64 3.12.4-19.fc13 version and the
i686 3.12.4-17.fc13 version of nss-softokn-freebl?
For some reason, the laptop let me load both versions while my big
box wont.
Thanks

kernel-devel problem (broken link, no PAE)
by Brian Mury
I am trying to build the VirtualBox kernel module. It fails with this
error:
Makefile:159: *** Error: unable to find the sources of your current
Linux kernel. Specify KERN_DIR=<directory> and run Make again. Stop.
In /lib/modules/2.6.33.4-95.fc13.i686.PAE there is a "build" symlink
that links to /usr/src/kernels/2.6.33.4-95.fc13.i686.PAE - but that
directory does not exist!
What *does* exist is /usr/src/kernels/2.6.33.4-95.fc13.i686 (note that
the .PAE extension is missing).
If I make a symlink from /usr/src/kernels/2.6.33.4-95.fc13.i686.PAE
to /usr/src/kernels/2.6.33.4-95.fc13.i686, the module will build, but
the kernel will not load it because it has the wrong version number.
>From /var/log/messages:
May 30 11:55:39 BrianF13 kernel: vboxdrv: version magic
'2.6.33.4-95.fc13.i686 SMP mod_unload 686 ' should be
'2.6.33.4-95.fc13.i686.PAE SMP mod_unload 686 '
Should there be a PAE version of kernel-devel? I can't find a package
for it.

bug reporting tool - auto download/install?
by Dj YB
hello,
I just had a crash with emarald, however following the steps in the error
reporting wizard I filled in my BugZilla login details and the next thing I see
is a download+install of 38 debug required packages.
now I don't remember giving my root password and it is not possible to install
without it (right?).
what happened to ask the user what he wants? 38 packages might be a lot for my
traffic or maybe I just don't wan to have those packages...
there is also no cancel button, so what should I do just kill it?
sorry if it sounds like ranting, but that is a suprising approach.
fc13 kde 4.4.2

F13 install on lappy, comments
by Gene Heskett
Greets all;
Imagine my surprise when I found the capability of setting local addresses
etc right in NM for a change, and it worked! I didn't have to go hacking
about to make the new install work with my local network gateways etc.
A tip of the hat to the coders who finally made that part Just Work(TM).
Thank you for that.
However the package manager seems to be forgetting my password, its asking
me for a new copy every so often as it works, installing the rest of the
stuff I normally use.
Also, I have not found mc yet, where in the package manager menu's might
that be?
Thanks.

'userdel' irony -- what do you say ?
by sawrub
Hi List,
I created a user by the name test, and after doing with my testing was
going to delete the user using the following command, userdel and also
added '-f' for cleaning out the home without leaving any traces of
'test'. But the command says :
[root@xbox ~]# userdel -f test
userdel: user test is currently logged in
Then i noticed that a tab in terminal was open with the user logged in.
Closed the TAB and again tried to remove the user. And to irony the user
was already gone as now the command said :.
[root@xbox ~]# userdel -f test
userdel: user 'test' does not exist
Tried listing the files and all were there intact.
[root@xbox ~]# ll /home/test/
.bash_history .bash_profile .dbus/
firefox-3.6.4.tar.bz2 .gconfd/ .gnome2_private/
.pulse-cookie
.bash_logout .bashrc firefox/
.gconf/ .gnome2/ .mozilla/
[root@xbox ~]#
I'm totally lost that how is parameter working fully against what man
says about it, pert manual
-f, --force
This option forces the removal of the user account, even if
the user is still logged in. It also forces userdel to remove the user´s
home directory and mail spool, even if another user uses the same home
directory or if the mail spool is not owned by the specified user. If
USERGROUPS_ENAB is defined to yes in /etc/login.defs and if a group
exists with the same name as the deleted user, then this group will be
removed, even if it is still the primary group of another user.
Seems that there is some issue with the command parameter, what do you
say ? is there some issue or Am i wrong somewhere.
