F12 and SyncMaster 2443 and 1920x1600 resolution?
by Paul Erickson
I have searched the archives, and not found anything that looks applicable.
Has anyone been able to successfully configure F12 to support 1920x1600
resolution with the Samsung SyncMaster 2443?
I have tried disabling the Nouveau drivers and installing the Nvidia,
but it doesn't seem to work. The motherboard is the M2N-MX using the
onboard video. I was able to get this hardware to work with F11, but for
some reason, can't get the upgrade to work.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
cheers, Paul

Network Interface Description
by Overkill
All, is there a way to put in a description in the network interfaces like
you can do in Cisco devices? This way when I run the ifconfig -a command
and I can view the description and remind myself of it's routing mechanism
or what it's attached to. I'm currently working in a overly architected
network with no access and all our servers have multiple interfaces. Thanks
in advance.

help verifying a site using Firefox
by Mike Wright
Hi all,
I'm currently on f10 using their firefox 3.0.15 build to which I've
installed firebug. I don't know whether firebug or firefox is the
culprit but the site displays correctly using Galeon and Chrome (with
firebug). I'd like to determine if it's the site's problem or that of
Firefox/Firebug but it smells like a bug in the site's javascript.
The problem occurs when I try to use CapitalOne's web site. It has
worked mostly well since 2007 but been on the fritz for a couple of
months now.
<you gotta be kidding>
Unfortunately, CapitalOne's help line is in India, their phone system
sucks (probably do-it-yourself voip with asterisk and really cheap
headsets: can't hear them, fades in and out, is mostly unintelligible
but my neighbors can hear their on-hold music) and they keep insisting
that I use IE. Oh, and since I can't login they will take my payment
via telephone and to verify my payment I should login. WTF? It seems
their tech support is in desperate need of tech support :/
</you gotta be kidding>
Since I can't count on them for help I'm turning to you.
Would somebody be so kind as to try this link using Firefox (preferably
3.0.15) and let me know their result?
https://servicing.capitalone.com/c1/login.aspx
There is supposed to be a login block on the left side of the page.
Greatly appreciated,
Mike Wright

SELinux security alert/Squid -
by Bob Goodwin
Yesterday I began getting an "SELinux security alert" and Firefox began
to operate erratically [became useless].
I did "setsebool -P squid_connect_any=1" per the alert and Firefox began
to work again, however now this morning I am getting a similar notice
although it appears to be making an exception.
Do I need to take some further action to satisfy SELinux or will I
continue to get this notice until some future update?
Bob
.
Summary:
SELinux is preventing the squid daemon from connecting to
network port 8180
Detailed Description:
[squid has a permissive type (squid_t). This access was not denied.]
SELinux has denied the squid daemon from connecting to 8180. By
default squid
policy is setup to deny squid connections. If you did not setup
squid to network
connections, this could signal a intrusion attempt.
Allowing Access:
If you want squid to connect to network ports you need to turn
on the
squid_connect_any boolean: "setsebool -P squid_connect_any=1"
Fix Command:
setsebool -P squid_connect_any=1

Need to replace a Shappire 2600XT that has blown up. Recommendations for Fedora 12+
by Howard Wilkinson
I need to replace a Shap[pire 2600XT card that has gone phut taking the
motherboard with it. My supplier no longer stocks this card so I would
like some recommendations. I need to get something that will just work
with F12 (and hopefully) F13. That will support dual monitors at
1600x1280 with a reasonable refresh rate. However, I am not in need of
any gaming features.
The new motherboard has a PCI Express x16 slot and 2 PIC Express x4
slots. Would prefer to use the x16 slot as that is what I use elsewhere.
I am agnostic about which card but have used Matrox and ATI based cards
in the past so have no experience with nVidia hardware.
Anybody?
In the ATI stable I can get 4350's, 4550's, 3450, 5450, 4650, 4670,
within my price range.
I have recently purchased a 5750 but I am stuck on F11 using the
proprietary driver as this chip is too new.
Any suggestions?

Problems with network speed setup in F12
by Gianluca Cecchi
Hello,
in f11 I had a line into /etc/rc.d/rc.local to force speed/duplex/autoneg:
/sbin/ethtool -s eth0 speed 100 duplex full autoneg off >> /tmp/ethtool.log 2>&1
In F12 I see that this setting is not maintained.
After I log in in Gnome I see that:
[root@tekkaman ~]# ethtool eth0
Settings for eth0:
Supported ports: [ TP ]
Supported link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
Supports auto-negotiation: Yes
Advertised link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
Advertised auto-negotiation: Yes
Speed: 100Mb/s
Duplex: Half
Port: Twisted Pair
PHYAD: 1
Transceiver: internal
Auto-negotiation: on
Supports Wake-on: g
Wake-on: d
Current message level: 0x000000ff (255)
Link detected: yes
The log file has timestamp of my boot time, so that I know it was
actually executed.
If I run it manually it succeeds and I get now:
Advertised link modes: Not reported
Advertised auto-negotiation: No
Speed: 100Mb/s
Duplex: Full
Port: Twisted Pair
PHYAD: 1
Transceiver: internal
Auto-negotiation: off
Supports Wake-on: g
Wake-on: d
Current message level: 0x000000ff (255)
Link detected: yes
but after some minutes I get again:
Advertised auto-negotiation: Yes
Speed: 100Mb/s
Duplex: Half
Port: Twisted Pair
PHYAD: 1
Transceiver: internal
Auto-negotiation: on
Supports Wake-on: g
Wake-on: d
Current message level: 0x000000ff (255)
Link detected: yes
So there is something external that manage this kind of changes.
Some questions:
- network guys say me that switch port is fixed at 100/full (it is a
gigabit ethernet) so, if this is true, even in autoneg there is an
error in getting settings
- what is the component that changes the settings? I walked through NM
applet to edit connections but I don't see any parameter....

Any suggestions???
BTW I have libvirtd started but no vm created

Kernel GPF

I've had several of these is the past few days. They all seem related
to /sys/devices/platform/coretemp.1/temp1_input, but my machine isn't
running particularly hot (at least according to ksensors). It's around
60 on both cpus.

I never have gotten readline & .inputrc working properly.
by Bill Case
Hi;
I have spent hours on this over the last couple of years. I am
obviously doing something fundamentally wrong -- but I can't figure out
what it is. I have gone over bash/readline several times as well as
googled. I am sure I am missing something basic.
Here is my file:
# Bill's inputrc for ReadLine
# '$include' directs readline to the file
# with 'universal' settings.
# Place 'export /etc/inputrc' in .bash_profile
$include /etc/inputrc
$if mode=emacs
"\C-x\C-r": re-read-init-file
Meta-Rubout: backward-kill-word
"M-C-b": backward-word
"\M-\C-f": forward-word
$endif
I have tried M & C with and without the escape. Nothing seems to work.
'Meta-Rubout: backward-kill-word' seems to work unless the binding is
coming from some other file. None of the other bindings work in either
gterminal or vtX. $VISUAL = emacs.
