Re: Sound does not work
by Adil Adil
Hi it still does not work. this time the command did give any errors when run. I don't know what you mean by quiting X, if you mean X window I think i did it because i rebooted the computer. I don't know what the command you gave me was intended to do but here is the result of the diff command between the previous version of alsa-info.txt and the new one and below you'll find the entire new alsa-info content:

start location for windows

When I start a new program in Gnome, it positions the new window at the
top left of the screen. Is there a way to tell it to use some other
location (e.g., center)?

Amarok Cover Manager Dead
by Richard Heck
I don't know when it started, but as of today, anyway, amarok's cover
manager just doesn't work at all. No matter what I do, it won't find any
covers. Has amazon changed the API again?

Just installed F11 on top of Suse 11.1 but can't boot Fedora.
by Nat Gross
On an exisiting station running Suse 11.1, I installed Fedora 11 into
a new partition, leaving the previous partitions intact.
I told Anaconda to install the boot info into this same partition. I
was hoping that I can use the new Fedora system, and in case of
emergency look stuff up on the older partitions. Anyhow, upon reboot,
Grub presents me with the same old menu as before I installed Fedora
11.
So I fired up Suse's boot mainteneance gui, which has an option to
"look for and merge other grub installations", and sure enough it
found the new Fedora 11 partition (in addition to many older kernels'
boot info).
The problem is that upon selecting F11, grub display chainloader+1,
the cpu box whistles, and that's that. It seems like a minor thing for
folks that know grub. I don't :).
Here is a copy of /boot/grub/menu.lst: (Please excuse if I should not
have posted all of it.)

Sound sharing via network
by Hiisi
Dear List!
Recently I had been generously suggested by yours of how to set up NAT
on my small home network. Now I have 3 computers on it: the main F11
desktop, connected directly to the Web and 2 laptops: one running
Ubuntu, while the other (my brother's) utilize window$. F11 shares not
only Web for the rest of the network. It shares its USB printer. I also
have Apache running on it for experiments with web-programming and ftp
for movies sharing between all machines. All that are individual steps
to tune my SuperBuperF11 home server. To finish the project I would like
F11 to share its sound system – two speakers. I would like to configure
it so that I could play songs or watching movies on any laptop while
sound goes from F11 speakers. Is it possible at all? Especially in case
of window$? Please don't blame me. Just curious.

Re: NAT-setup: modification requared [SOLVED]
by Hiisi
Dear list!
My mail provider had some technical problems. I could not log in to my
mailbox during all day. Now it's OK but I've no new messages for the
last 24 hours. Probably KGB erased them ;-)
I read your kindly replies from public list.
I've solved the problem by setting 192.168.3.* network for eth2. Thanks
goes to Mr. Alain Spineux. So simple it was!
To Bill Davidsen:
“*I appreciate that you may have policy or financial issues which
prevent this, that hardware is inexpensive in the US but might no be at
your location.”
I have no restrictions of what to do with *my* traffic after I've got it
from that socket on the wall. I just don't want to buy anything. I've
already brought a nice desktop and powered it by Fedora. Now I can even
establish my own Internet provider. Just if I could put a plenty of
Ethernet adapters to the box! By the way, switches from the same China'
plant cost the same around the World, aren't they?

“You should buy a network switch (about 10$), connect that to eth1 and
connect both the clients to that switch. No further configuration
needed, please do _not_ configure eth2.”
Sorry. Can't promise that...

“*You can find more info fore example here:
http://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/Net:Bridge but I don't think you need
to compile anything – I'm pretty sure this funcionality is built-in into
Fedora for quite a long time now.
Bridge has one more advantage - if you decide to add yet another network
card - it should be pretty easy to add it into bridge.*”
Grate tip. Thank you! I will consider of doing so in the nearest future.
But for now I choose the simplest way (the fastest to configure) to
satisfy my WEB-addiction.
Once again: thanks everybody for participation. Appreciate that.

Chrome Fedora proxy configuration

Has anyone figured out how to configure a proxy server with Chrome?
Going to "Options...Under the Hood" and clicking the "Change proxy

to actually change the settings.
