f11 x86_64 and acrobat reader
by Genes MailLists
When i try running acrobat reader (9.1.2) it works fine on 32 bit f10,
but on 64 bit r11 i get
Gtk-message: Failed to load "pk-gtk-module": libpk-gtk-module.so:
cannot open shared object file - no such file or directory.
So i did this:
yum install PackageKit-gtk-module.i586
which installed a load of stuff - but problem persists.
Help ?

don't you need "repo=...." appended to kernel line? :
kernel /boot/f11/vmlinuz repo=hd:<device>:/<path>

F11 Live CD Capabilities Info
by Joseph L. Casale
I have some remote work over a painfully slow link if using
graphics. To accomplish what I need to do, a dd of a file that
resides on a CIFS share onto a USB key of a server, I was thinking
of booting the machine with an F11 Live CD so I could do this all
in one hit.
So, does the live cd have support for CIFS mounts and an ssh server
so I could only deal with getting the thing started, then dump the
graphical remote logon and just use ssh?
Better yet, can I interrupt grub and pass a "3" to prevent the
disc from even loading X?
I would try, but the connection is so slow, it would take ages to try
if it didn't work and my maint window is short unless I wanna be up
all night, I can't have it off for long :)
Thanks guys!

fingerprint login - some issues
by Genes MailLists
0) It works !!
BUT - there seem to be some dangers to using this which made me turn
it off asap.
1) It only allows enrolling 1 finger - this means if you cut your
finger you can no longer use this without deleting and re-instating a
different finger.
A better way would be to allow enrolling up to 10 fingers and use
any match.
2) Once this is on, screen lock requires fingerprint to unlock -
this is awful. It should always allow either fingerprint or password.
Again - cut your finger and you can not get back on to the computer.
If the login screen (gdm) behaves similarly to screen lock it too
should have a password as alternate oetherwise you'd be locked out until
your finger healed!

f11 - mouse jumps to top left
by Genes MailLists
Anyone else notice f11 - gnome - the mouse pointer periodically jumps
for no reason to the top left corner over the 'f applications' menu button ?
Using laptop with bluetooth mouse ... (hands not on touchpad).

FC10 character input dropping bytes
by William M. Quarles
I keep getting messages like the following in my system messages log:
Jul 5 06:37:13 localhost kernel: psmouse.c: Wheel Mouse at
isa0060/serio1/input0 lost synchronization, throwing 1 bytes away.
In addition, the mouse and the keyboard frequently stop responding.
Sometimes the mouse does not move at all, and sometimes characters I
input from the keyboard just get lost in the mix. This is not due to a
slow system, as I am using a Pentium 4 with 1GB of RAM, which is well
more than enough to run FC10. In addition, this problem only seemed to
pop up in the last few days. Does anybody have any idea as to what might
be going on?
Thanks,
William

Installing F11 from local hard drive
by Robert G. (Doc) Savage
In past releases we've had multiple choices of installation sources
(local, HTTP, FTP, NFS, etc.). I have a complete mirror of F11, both
release and updates on /dev/sdb1. Is it still possible to boot from a
CD/DVD and install from that local mirror? If so, how?

Floppy recognition
by alan duval
I have Fedora 10 installed. Yesterday I inserted a floppy disk and the
floppy icon appeared on the desktop. I later unmounted it but since then
no icon appears when I insert the floppy. I can mount it by using root
in a terminal and typing
mount -t vfat /dev/fd0 /media
but have to open the media folder to view the contents as no floppy icon
appears on the desktop.
I then added
/dev/fd0 /media vfat defaults 0 2
to the fstab file and find that in a root terminal I can type
mount /dev/fd0
and it will be mounted in /media but still no desktop icon.
what can I do to get a floppy icon appearing on the desktop when I
insert a floppy disk?

kernel 2.6.30 from koji
by davide
Hi, I tried to get kernel .30 from koji, I've found a package f12.
I got the src.rpm and given the rebuild command.
after an hour -need to understand how to get *only* kernel package and no
all the debug stuff- I got my rpm for f11.
I installed it with the kernel-firmware from f12 and rebooted.
The system went in kernel panic.
Do you have any hints? How can I rebuil the firmware package for f11?
(I would like to underline I've just rebuild the kernel, not changed any
option at all)
hav a nice day!
