ltsp on f10
by François Patte
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Bonjour,
I try to install an ltsp-server to boot thin clients on my f10 box.
I followed instructions there:
https://fedorahosted.org/k12linux/wiki/InstallGuide
But failed....
Either I use ltsp-vmclient and the boot process hangs after:
writing permanent udev rules [OK]
saying continuously: "couldn't create cookie"
Or booting a real TC, boot process hangs after :
writing permanent udev rules [OK]
not saying "couldn't create cookie" but putting the monitor in standby...
Has anyone succeeded?
Thanks for helping.
PS. the TC I try to boot worked perfectly with ltsp-4.2

I can't print, sort of.
by Alan Evans
Sometime recently, printing stopped working in some applications.
I can go into System->Administration->Printing and print a test page.
And I can print without problem with OpenOffice Writer.
Firefox won't print anymore. It pops up the dialog with the progress
bar stating it's printing, which quickly disappears, but the little
tray icon that indicates printing never shows up and the printer never
wakes up.
Gedit pops up a dialog complaining "Can't prompt for authorization"
when I try to print from it.
I see nothing relevant in /var/log/messages. Should I be looking
somewhere else for printer-related messages?
The printer, for its part, is shared from a Windows machine in our
office, so the Device URI is of the "smb://" variety.
Printing used to work all around. I don't print very often, so I'm not
sure when it stopped working.

No IP4 address after NetworkManager update
by Mark Knoop
Yesterday's updates included:

Mar 09 09:44:50 Updated: 1:NetworkManager-0.7.0.99-1.fc10.i386
On booting this morning, NetworkManager fails to bring up eth0
completely - it gets an IPV6 address, but no IP4, and my router can't
see the box.
# ifconfig

Stopping NetworkManager, starting network and manually bringing up eth0
doesn't work either.
There are logged warnings from NetworkManager regarding udevadm:
Mar 10 07:17:04 localhost NetworkManager: <WARN>
udevadm_get_modem_capabilities(): could not run udevadm to get modem
capabilities for '/sys/devices/pnp0/00:09/tty/ttyS1': Failed to execute

Relevant part of /var/log/messages here: http://pastebin.com/m148fb6bf
These are also in the audit.log. Tried a boottime SELinux relabel and
switching to permissive mode, but no difference there.
Any ideas?

Transferring a file from mobile to laptop using bluetooth
by divya bet
Hello,
I have fedora core 9 running on my laptop (which has a built in bluetooth
adapter) and a Sony Ericsson K810i Mobile phone. Both the devices recognise
each other and could be bonded via bluetooth. I could transfer a file from
my laptop to the mobile phone. But when I try to transfer a file from the
mobile phone to the laptop, the transfer does not happen. The reason being
that mobile phone is not able to discover the services of the laptop. When
googled, I came to know that the following commands lets us know the status
of bluetooth running on our system:
1) rpm -qa "*bluez*" "*obex*"
2) sdptool browse local
3) gconftool-2 --recursive-list /desktop/gnome/file_sharing
This is the output for these commands on my machine:
[root@localhost Divya]# rpm -qa "*bluez*" "*obex*"

Small SELinux issue with kdm and grub
by Marko Vojinovic
Greetings everyone! :-)
This is not a big issue, but it annoys me every time I logout, so... Anyway,
setroubleshoot says the following:
###################################
Summary:
SELinux is preventing kdm (xdm_t) "execute" to ./grub (bootloader_exec_t).
Detailed Description:
SELinux denied access requested by kdm. It is not expected that this access is
required by kdm and this access may signal an intrusion attempt. It is also
possible that the specific version or configuration of the application is
causing it to require additional access.
Allowing Access:
Sometimes labeling problems can cause SELinux denials. You could try to
restore
the default system file context for ./grub,
restorecon -v './grub'
If this does not work, there is currently no automatic way to allow this
access.
Instead, you can generate a local policy module to allow this access - see FAQ
(http://fedora.redhat.com/docs/selinux-faq-fc5/#id2961385) Or you can disable
SELinux protection altogether. Disabling SELinux protection is not
recommended.
Please file a bug report (http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/enter_bug.cgi)
against this package.
Additional Information:

I have found ./grub to be /sbin/grub and tried to restorecon it, but the

So, does anyone understand what is going on and why?

Any solution without installing pdgin from pidgin.im?

jigdo versus jigdo-lite
by Robert P. J. Day
in the instructions on how to get respins using jigdo here:
http://fedorasolved.org/post-install-solutions/jigdo/
there's a link to here:
http://atterer.net/jigdo
which refers specifically to "jigdo-lite", although the underlying
links take you to a page whereupon you find rpms for simply "jigdo".
does the concept of "jigdo-lite" even exist anymore? if not, perhaps
that page should be corrected.

HP parallel port scanner & Fedora 9
by Peter Boy
Hi,
I'm trying to connect an older HP multifunction PSC 500 to a Fedora 9
box via parallel port.
HP lib does support it, but the xsane tool can not handle parallel
ports. I tried the hp-setup tools. It recognizes the device
hp:/par/PSC_500?device=/dev/parport0
but a program error seems to prevent it from creating a config file
(Traceback: file /usr/bin/hp-setup, line 448, in <module> from installer
import core_install, ImportError: No module named installer)
I suppose Fedora uses it's own gnome based configuration tools as
mentioned on the hp-lib web pages.
Does someone know where I have to enter the parallel port information to
a make gscan2pdf work? Unfortunalely I only found instructions for
older Fedora versions which used hpoj.
Thanks in advance
Peter
