Fedora does not restart.
by Grzegorz Witkowski
Hi,
My Fedora 12 does not restart the computer when I select System -> Shut
Down... -> Restart button or do # shutdown -r now.
It logs me out, shuts X, I believe stops all processes and then I can
see Restarting and a steady cursor below on the left top corner of the
screen. Keyboard is unresponsive but the system is still powered on,
fans are spinning and power button is on.
Then the only option is to shut the system down by holding the power
button for few seconds.
I can shutdown the system from the Fedora with no problem.
Windows and Ubuntu restarts the same hardware with no problem.
Fedora Live gives the same problem.
I wonder if it is something to do with ACPI?
I had that issue since F9 if I remember in all releases of Fedora later.
If anyone has any idea, it's more than welcome.
Kindest regards,

Size, resolution, desktop effects issues after update [F12, X, Gnome, Compiz, xrandr, radeon, RV350 AS Radeon 9550]
by Grzegorz Witkowski
Hi,
After recent updates to kernel 2.6.31.6-145.fc12.i686.PAE my Gnome
started behave strangely.
It looks xrandr stopped probing my screen and card properly and it looks
Compiz (Desktop Effects) stopped working properly either.
Compiz seems to be working, but I cannot switch between desktops, like I
would have only one desktop and the "Workspaces on a Cube" does not
work, I mean I can select it by the cube is not there.
I tried Metacity and the only difference is that I can switch between
workspaces.
I believe I had the same issues in F10 & F11, that is why I stopped
using them a while ago. I came back to F12 because all looked great
after initial install. Few updates and it looks to be broken again :(

In Display Preferences I can see now two monitors for any reason.
One is shown as Goldstar Company Ltd 19" (I have a Flatron 19" but it
worked fine before update recognized as Goldstar).
The second one is shown as Unknown - I do not have the second

BTW, I tried to create manual xorg.conf with different settings and that
only helped to bring gdm login screen to 1440x900_60.00.

Firefox loses sound if left
by Mick M.
Hi;
I use:
firefox-3.5.5-1.fc12.x86_64
kernel 2.6.31.6-145.fc12.x86_64
When I go to youtube and play a video it works fine.
However if I walk away for a while and then tryto watch something I get no sound.
I can use dolphin to play a .flv file just fine.
If I quit firefox and start it again it works.

Compiz-manager bombs but desktop-effects works?
by thomas cameron
All -
I'm using a GeForce 7300 GT video card. It's worked great for dual-head
with all the compiz-fusion goodness since FC6 or so.
I finally got F12 installed, jumped through the hoops to get the NVidia
driver (from nvidia.com) installed. Weird thing is that if I fire up
compiz-manager, it doesn't work. No wobbly windows, no spinning
desktop, nothing. Here's the output:
[tcameron@case Desktop]$ compiz-manager

If I just run desktop-effects, I get the wobbly windows and spinning

Anyone else seeing this? Any pointers?

packagegit authentication
by Sam Varshavchik
I thought that a week ago packagegit was updated to require authentication
before installing all packages, even signed ones. I just ran packagegit to
install all current updates, and realized that it didn't prompt me for the
root password. I want to change that.
I can't find the "Security" tool in the administration menu which in
previous versions of Fedora could be used to configure which actions require
authentication. Where did that tool move to?

Fonts Helvetica and symbol ???
by Reg Clemens
I am building an old program and it wants the fonts
helvetica10
helvetica14
and symbol12
looking at the list from 'yum list all' there seem to be about a billion font
packages,- does anyone know which might provide these fonts???
I can use something similar, for helvetica, but would then have to worry about
the content of the Symbol font.
Any help would be appreciated.

f12 eclipse and adroid ADT errors
by Wolfgang S. Rupprecht
I tried to install the f12 eclipse and use it with the android ADT via
the instructions at http://developer.android.com/sdk/eclipse-adt.html .
When I followed the Eclipse 3.5 instructions it bombed after the "add
https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/" step with the following
error:
Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found.
Software being installed: Android Development Tools 0.9.4.v200910220141-17704 (com.android.ide.eclipse.adt.feature.group 0.9.4.v200910220141-17704)
Missing requirement: Android Development Tools 0.9.4.v200910220141-17704 (com.android.ide.eclipse.adt.feature.group 0.9.4.v200910220141-17704) requires 'org.eclipse.gef 0.0.0' but it could not be found
This is totally incrutable to me. What is it trying to tell me it wants
loaded and from where? Is the fact that this is missing from f12
eclipse but installed in the oficial eclipse distribution from
http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/ a bugzilla bug?

httpd with symbolic links and selinux enabled
by Justin Jereza
Hello.
I'm having trouble accessing symbolic links in userdirs through httpd
with selinux enabled on Fedora 12.
The following duplicates my situation:
* Enable userdirs in /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf
# setsebool -P httpd_enable_homedirs on
# setsebool -P httpd_read_user_content on
~$ mkdir -p public_html foo/bar
~$ cd public_html
~/public_html$ ln -s ../foo
~/public_html$ cd ../foo/bar
~/foo/bar$ echo "<h1>Test</h1>" > baz.html
~/foo/bar$ ln -s baz.html index.html
http://localhost/~user/foo/ is accessible,
http://localhost/~user/foo/bar/ is not. How can I make this work?
Thanks.
