Garbage on empty KDE desktops
by Timothy Murphy
I am running Fedora-9 (updated) with KDE on a ThinkPad T43.
I have 8 desktops.
I find that those among them that are empty
all have the same messy screen,
with what looks like the garbled remains of an application.
Does anyone else find this?
Is there any program that will clear a desktop not in use?
Or is there some setting I can make that does this?
Any advice gratefully received.

Problems with IPW3545 and latest kernel
by Ricard Martí
I've problems connecting wireless with IPW3545 (Intel Pro Wireless 3545) and
latest kernel (kernel-2.6.25.9-76.fc9.i686). No problems were found on the
previous kernel. Surfed with internet and seen that it's a bug but, there's
a plan to solve it in a few days?
Thanks!

Thunderbird and junkmail
by Ian Chapman
Hi All,
Does anybody have any idea why I can't get thunderbird to automatically
move junk mail that arrives in my inbox, into the Junk folder? This used
to work but for some reason it no longer is. It detects the junk, marks
it as read but doesn't move it. If I manually mark a message as junk it
does move it.
In the account settings I also have move new junk messages to junk
folder selected.

F9: Scanning with canon lide-30 (USB) produces awful noises
by Joachim Backes
Hi,
my scanner is an USB scanner, Canon Lide-30. Since some weeks, sometimes
when scanning, the scanner produces awful noises during scan (like a
saw), and the scanner input is unusable.
rpm -qa '*sane*'
libsane-hpaio-2.8.2-2.fc9.i386
xsane-0.995-3.fc9.i386
xsane-gimp-0.995-3.fc9.i386
sane-backends-1.0.19-10.fc9.i386
sane-backends-libs-1.0.19-10.fc9.i386
Does somebody have similar problems?
I think this is a software problem, because I never have this behaviour
in WinXP.
I found some entries in the Ubuntu forums, but no solution.

Gnome DVD CDA Autoplay default program
by Federico Marziali
Hello everybody.
I'm running Fedora 9 and using Gnome as desktop environment.
I'm trying to figure out how to add items to the autoplay list for
removable medias (DVD, Audio CD, etc...) handling.
I found the removable media tab under the preferences for Nautilus,
but I could only select one of the predefined entries, not adding my
own.
E.g. I'd like to add (and use) Amarok or KsCD for AudioCD and
Xine/mplayer for DVD.
I'd be happy to manually modify a config file, but I could not find
anything that rang a bell looking under ~/.gnome ~/.gnome2 ~/.gconf
.....
Any help/hint is appreciated!

RAID and /boot partitions
by redhatdude@bellsouth.net
Hi,
When creating a RAID 1 in F9.
Does it make sense to make the /boot partition on both discs a RAID too?
I have /boot and / as RAID 1 (dm-0 and dm-1). If I disconnect one of the drives, the computer freezes. Isn't the RAID supposed to keep it running?
I'm really new to this, so any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
EJ

zsh and keys setup
by Bruno Costacurta
Hello,
how to setup keys under ZSH shell ?
Default setup is not working (or at least seem totally not logical...)
as 'Home' or 'End' do nothing, delete-char is deleting the left character
where the right character is expected ..etc..
I'm using Fedora-9
Here is my home file .zshrc :
HISTFILE=~/.histfile
HISTSIZE=1000
SAVEHIST=1000
setopt autocd
bindkey -e
bindkey "^[[3~" delete-char # I tried this but no result...
# End of lines configured by zsh-newuser-install
# The following lines were added by compinstall
zstyle :compinstall filename '/home/bruno/.zshrc'
autoload -Uz compinit
compinit
# End of lines added by compinstall
#
Thanks for any help or clue;
Bye,
Bruno
