F9: KDE 4, some improvement finally
by Andrea
Hi,
I've just updated around 60 packages and rebooted.
I've noticed that the icons in the K menu and next to the clock in the toolbar, and the icons in the
desktop have a much better look.
Well done.

From Grip to Sound Juicer
by Francois
Hi,
Using Fedora 9, Grip no longer works on my system. I've switched to Sound
Juicer and get *.flac files.
Is there a tool to convert "flac" file to "mp3" files ? I do not want to
produce mp3 files directly from sound juicer, as I can't find a way to tell
it to produce 320 bitrate files; Thank you. Francois

Fedora 9 - Wireless SUCCESS - Use TKIP, not AES
by John Wendel
After several hours of fiddling with the non-working wireless network in
my new Fedora installation, I noticed in the log file a list of
supported security modules - and "WPA - AES" wasn't in the list.
So, I changed my router to use "WPA - TKIP" instead of "WPA - AES". I
then restarted the box, and got an perfect wireless connection.
It would really be nice if the #$$%%# software would have mentioned that
it doesn't support "AES".
Regards,
John

If they are installed at the "standard" location.
Actually this is an system which upgraded from F8->F9. When running F8 the
web-page above just worked. I checked and all installed gstreamer-packages
are now at F9-level. Or should I install additional packages to get the
codecs?

fetchmail problem: couldn't time-check the run-control file
by Henning Larsen
Hi.
I'm running fetchmail from rc.local like this:
su -c username "/usr/bin/fetchmail -d 60"
In my home directory I have .fetchmailrc with permissons 0710 and
username:username as the owner.
When I boot, or log in as root and run /etc/rc.d/rc.local I get:
fetchmail: couldn't time-check the run-control file
fetchmail: lstat: /home/username/.fetchmailrc: Permission denied
I can run fetchmail the same way as I try in rc.local if I run the
command logged in as root.
Any ideas?

Problems playing audiostreams in F9
by Jouk Jansen
Hi all,
Not all of my favourite internet-radio stations play after an upgrade from
F8-F9. I point fire fox to i.e. the following web-pages with varying results.
In both cases the gecko-mplayer is suposed to be working
http://www.dr.dk/netradio/metafiler/asx/DR_Klassisk_32.asx
Result : perfect sound
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio3/ram/r3g2.ram
Result : silence (I can see in the firefox window the knobs of mplayer)
What could be the problem?

evince or hardware problem?
by Bruno Wolff III
I have been use evince to look at some larger pdf files (AD&D 4th Ed) and
am getting errors that are inconsistant. Normally I would think hardware
problem, but I am not seeing it when doing other compute intensive things
(e.g. Wesnoth builds from source). I did a quick memory test and nothing
showed up.
I did notice that evince saves state, so varying state might account for
different errors when starting it up.
Some sample output written to the shell:
bash-3.2$ evince MonsterManual4ed.pdf
Error (88144087): Unexpected end of file in flate stream
Error (87476799): Bad block header in flate stream
bash-3.2$ !!
evince MonsterManual4ed.pdf
Corrupt JPEG data: premature end of data segment
bash-3.2$ !!
evince MonsterManual4ed.pdf
Corrupt JPEG data: premature end of data segment
Does this seem to be something that could be caused by an evince bug, or should
I be looking more closely at my hardware?
