f9 vino problem
by David L
I'm unable to get a vncviewer to connect to my f9 gnome desktop
using vncviewer after enabling remote viewing with vino-preferences.
I think I'm doing the same thing that worked in f8, but now on the
client side I get a "unable to connect to host: no route to host"
error. Any ideas?
Thanks,
David

OT: Does a proxy IMAP server exist?
by Tom Horsley
Just curious if such a thing as a "proxy IMAP" server exists? (Preferably
already available in some rpm I can install on fedora :-).
What is that, you ask?
I'd like to continue to keep my mail on the IMAP server at work, but I'd
like better spam filtering than the server-side rules provide.
What I'd really like to have is something on my desktop that acts like
an IMAP server, but really forwards requests to the main server, however
it does allow me to do procmail/spamassassin/bogofilter processing of the mail
on the corporate IMAP server so I can delete obvious spam, etc. before
anything talking to my local IMAP server even sees it.

Pimp my Fedora script
by Valent Turkovic
I have been fine tuning for some time my script called "Pimp my Fedora":
http://snipurl.com/pimpmyfedora
If anybody wants you can freely use it and also if you enhance it
please drop me a note. I would like to refine this script even more
over time so any contribution is more than welcome.
Cheers,
Valent.

lenovo X60 and external display with fedora 9
by Mike Zingale
I just updated my laptop from fedora core 6 to fedora 9 (I did a clean
install). The display now uses the Intel driver. Under FC6, all I
needed to do was plug a display into the external VGA port, and
instantly my desktop would be cloned on the external display.
With the new intel driver, this no longer seems to work.
I can seem to get it to display by plugging in a monitor and doing
"xrandr --auto", but this seems to be a step backwards. Is there
anyway to get the external VGA port to automatically clone the display
when something is plugged in?
Thanks for any help,
Mike

off topic - cifs selinux and apache question
by Phill
I have a web server running Apache 2.2.3 on CentOS 5.
I am linking to an xls spreadsheet on a windows server
share. I have the share mounted cifs ro locally on the
Linux server. I am unsure what would be the best
method of doing this. The way I have it setup now
causes me to get SELinux complaints about httpd access
to non http context files, since the context on the
mounted share is cifs_t. Does anyone know the
preferred method of accessing a spreadsheet, or other
type of file located on a windows share, from Apache
web server running on Linux machine? I thought maybe
some sort of script might be the answer but I have
just a little experience with cgi. Thanks in advance!

Not a Newbie question -- cleaning out printer queues ??
by Bill Case
Hi;
This has been annoying me for a long time. How do I absolutely and
certainly clean out all printing queues and buffers after I have botched
a printing job?
Case in point:
Yesterday I started to print an SVG graphics file I had created in
Inkscape. Immediately after I pressed the print button, I saw a glaring
mistake I wanted to fix. The printer hadn't started to print yet so I
cancelled the job using the print thingie in the Notification Area. My
printer ground to a halt -- a good thing. Made my changes to the
graphic but nothing would print after that. I then did the usual
impatient things -- 2-or-3 more print tries; a test page; a text page
test; turned the printer on and off a couple of times but no joy. I then
used the printer thingie to cancel all jobs.
I re-booted into WindowsXp; tried the printer; it worked fine; double
checked ink levels. I shut the computer down; turned the printer off and
on; and re-booted to Fedora. Immediately on re-loading Fedora my
printer, printed an ink and paper wasting 1/2 of my original graphic and
a test page. It worked fine after that.
Sorry for the long description of my attempts to get my printer going,
but I wanted to show something we have all seen and done, I am sure.
So my question is, on behalf of all frustrated printer users, after
botching/stopping a print job; how do you make absolutely certain that
all queues and buffers in the operating system and printer are cleaned
out so that you can start afresh?
I am using an HP Photosmart C4200 All-in-One printer, but my question
really applies to all printers. All the nice neat manual answers seem
to apply only to nice neat orderly print cancellations; not to a rushed
slightly panicked, STOP THE PRESSES.
