Sound vs x86_64
by Mike Chambers
Ok, I got flash going for now (and seems to run fine and not eat up cpu
at the moment, but havcen't tested it hard yet).
But I guess sound isn't going yet. I installed the pulseaudio-libs.i386
(in which nspluginwrapper is already installed) but still no sound.
What packages are needed (both i386 and x64) to make it work? The
device itself works just fine, as sound card detection works without a
hitch, but not through flash or whatever. Haven't tried a cd or
anything yet.
Including sound info just in case isn't needed..

I sent emails to all of those addresses and still got no reply :(
So does anybody perhaps knows them personally by chance?
Cheers,
Valent.

Sound card stopped working
by Jean-Rene Cormier
Hi,
I have an issue here which I don't believe is Fedora related but I just
want to make sure and thought I'd ask anyway in case someone has an idea
what's going on.
I currently have an Intel DQ35JO motherboard in an Antec P182 case. I
bought this motherboard a while ago since I had to RMA the ASUS P5B-VM
Do motherboard I had before and I didn't want to be without a computer
for weeks. So tonight I was watching some videos and it was getting late
so I thought I'd put on my headphones but instead of just plugging them
in the jack on my speakers I thought I'd try the front panel on my case
since I couldn't remember if I ever tried them. So anyway I plugged the
headphone in and the computer turned off... I unplugged them and
restarted the computer and now there's no sound at all. So anyway I
started looking around, in the sound card detection it does find the
onboard audio but there's nothing listed in the PCM device.
I also had the same audio issues with the ASUS I had previously but I
don't remember if I tried the front audio with that one or what happened
that the sound just stopped working...
Here's the output of lspci -v which shows that it finds the sound card:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio
Controller (rev 02)
Subsystem: Intel Corporation Unknown device 0012
Flags: fast devsel, IRQ 22
Memory at 98420000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 2
Capabilities: [60] Message Signalled Interrupts: Mask- 64bit+
Queue=0/0 Enable-
Capabilities: [70] Express Root Complex Integrated Endpoint, MSI
00
Kernel modules: snd-hda-intel
And lsmod shows the module is loaded:
snd_hda_intel 274529 0
So what I'm wondering is, is there something wrong with the front panel
connector of the case that could have shorted out the onboard sound card
on both my motherboards? Anyway that's what I'm wondering but I'd like a
second opinion... I'll probably send an email to Antec tomorrow to see
what they have to say about it...

google mail and thunderbird -
by Bob Goodwin
My ISP, Wildblue.net, has switched all their e-mail accounts to "gmail."
I am accustomed to having all my mail neatly sorted into directories
with Thunderbird mail.
Suddenly I have almost 800 messages dumped into one list broken into
pages of fifty lines. I found a rudimentary filter system but it
doesn't appear to sort my mail into directories as I am accustomed to?
Or I may be missing something ...
Can someone tell me how to deal with this mess? At least point me in
the right direction. I am still in shock and not sure what to do next!

palm T5 sync jpilot, frequent disconnections
by L
Hi,
I have a palm T5 to sync with jpilot on Fedora 6 or 7. I have two problems,
1st one, most times it is difficult to get connected, it always show
follwoing errors:
usb 4-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2
usb 4-1: device descriptor read/64, error -71
usb 4-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3
usb 4-1: device descriptor read/64, error -71
usb 4-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 4
usb 4-1: device not accepting address 4, error -71
usb 4-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 5
usb 4-1: device not accepting address 5, error -71
usb 4-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 6
usb 4-1: device descriptor read/64, error -71
usb 4-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 7
usb 4-1: device descriptor read/64, error -71
With luck, when I restart machine or replugin PAD or other(?), I may
get a connection. I nomally sync in this sequence: press hotsync
button, within 3 seconds, click sync on jpilot. Most of times, the PDA
was disconnected and reconnected, as showing below. What is the
preblom and how to fix it?

Mobile phone sync?
by Matthew Saltzman
I'm about to buy a phone and would like to get one that is capable of
syncing calendar and contacts with Evolution via Bluetooth or USB.
E-mail sync via IMAP or Exchange would be nice as well, though most
providers only seem to offer connectivity to some of the more popular
public e-mail services. I'm aware of Blackberry, but it's expensive for
personal use. iPhone apparently requires iTunes to sync with Outlook
(and it's more than I want to spend as well).
Any suggestions for software I need to get for Linux and devices that
will work well?
My provider choices are AT&T and Verizon.
TIA.
